Replacing the battery in my boat. It's an 02 X-star with stock radio (1 amp, sub, four speakers). The boat is just a one battery set up for now. It has a single Interstate Deep Cycle HD24-DP, 405 CCA, 505 MCA. I was told that this actually isn't the right type of battery for this boat/setup? What would you suggest I replace it with, or what is the "right" battery? Thanks.

The owner's manual should list a BCI group number or CCA number. Don't buy anything smaller than what is listed.

If I were you I would get a group 31. The interstate is a group 24 and is real low on cranking amps. Find someone that carries Deka batteries. They are one of the only batteries that are actually made in the USA. They make a group 31 marine/rv dual purpose battery. It has 700 CCA and a 20 amp hour rating of 100. It is a very good choice for someone running a one battery system and has a smaller stereo with amp. It provides some of the characteristics of a starting battery and Deep Cycle. Here is a link to the specifications.
