hey everyone, i recently bought a HO ski for 100 bucks and i dont know anything about it, its called a HO extreme V series, and it has tightening mechanisms to stiffen the ski. does anyone know anything about it?
This post probably belongs n the waterskiing board but whatever. Yeah the HO Extreme was built in the mid 90's I think, its the predecessor to the HO VTX and the HO CDX (Wade Cox Design Extreme). Basic premise is the tighter the dampening bar the faster the ski will run cross course, the softer it is it will probably turn a little easier.
Should be a good ski for you if you are just messing around. If you want to do any course skiing I'd recommend getting into a wider and newer technology ski like an HO Triumph or a Mach 1...
Again though if you are happy with it and have fun then it was a $100 well spent!
A wider ski wouldn't have anywhere near the acceleration wake to wake that your ski will have. The Extreme would be the last ski to buy if you are just "messing around" because a wider ski like the Triumph would cause a lot less arm pump and be more forgiving. The Mach 1 bbeach suggested is much like a softer version of what you just bought and has been around pretty much unchanged since the mid eighties so it's hardly new tech. It is however a very forgiving course ski that I would recommend to any new slalom course skier. Your ski probably has double boots which you could put on another blank until you really want to hit the course hard at which point you'll likely put them back on to the Extreme. There is a reason "shaped" course events are held at lower speeds and it's not because the wide skis accelerate harder.
