Just passing along a link I found on another message board...

Donít have the MB-D10 grip for your D300 but still want a taste of what 8 fps is like? Try this secret trick to fool your D300 into shooting at 8 fps.

Yeah, but what's the flash duration when you keep upping the w/s? I'm pretty sure my 580ex at full power is 1/800th sec. Anything slower than that isn't so good for sports.

Have you tried this yet, because it was posted on April Fool's day...

yeah it is a big joke... if you look at the next day strobist post it gives the low down. i thought it was funny and rather clever.

the d300 thing may be legit tho. i dont own one so i have no idea.

its weird tho that doesnt really explain how that makes the camera shoot faster. maybe just beacause you manually set everythign and so the camera can just fire away without having to "think" about anything. it is somewhat odd that the d300 has a different FPS when they battery grip is on. does anyone know why? does if just have to do with power consumption and so it needs the addition power source to operate at that speed?

Power consumption was the reason I always heard.

Translation: Nikon wants to get you to buy a grip and that's a good reason. Given the cost of those things they gotta be making a serious profit on one.
