I just finished one with 3 bracketed raw files.

I'm going to go back and see if I can do it with one file.

I think Your right Rich. I keep getting this (There is not enough dynamic range in these photos to construct a useful HDR image.) even when I re-name the raw file.

That means no action shots in HDR for CS2.

Can we all agree that our December assignment be an HDR image of any sort? Sounds like everyone is diving right in. I might as well install CS3 and follow suit. Let me know if anyone objects.

I was told that the EXIF data has to be removed from the tif before you can use a single raw image. Anyone know how to delete the data from a tif ?
Old    Russell (xcharrier)      Join Date: Jul 2002       12-04-2007, 8:44 PM Reply
Yes. Thats the trick in CS2 of using a single exposure to get the result. You have to bring the image into photoshop three seperate times at different exposures. After you bring each file in you need to select all, copy, and paste into a new document. Save the new document. Do that for each exposure and it shouldnt give you the error saying there isnt enough dynamic range anymore.

Count me in for a HDR assignment.

For those that don't have photoshop you can use photomatix for free also, it is a full version for free it just watermarks your image. Highly recommend checking it out, PS's HDR doesn't even come close to what photomatix can do. Then you can take the HDR file in PS and play till your hearts content. Definitely count me in for an HDR assignment.

The base Mac version of Photomatrix seemed to work just fine for me and if I remember didn't watermark anything. I thought it only watermarked the image if you used the advanced commands (which I thought didn't do much anyhow). If you're into 1 click/software does all the thinking then PM seemed way better then CS2 to me. Other then backlit stuff like sunsets what's HDR really good for anyway?

Russell,

I've done all that and I'm still getting the same error. Any idea why ?
Old    Russell (xcharrier)      Join Date: Jul 2002       12-06-2007, 8:57 AM Reply
The only thing I can think of is that I think you mentioned you were bringing in a tiff. You might actually have to bring in the raw file so you can change the exposure levels in the raw conversion. I still dont see why its not working though... because when you copy the image and paste it into a new image it strips the exif at that time.

Is there a way to HDR a RAW file using PSE 5.0? That's all I have people!

Walt, you ought to get a 24 or 45mm Tilt-shift lens, you'd go bonkers with one of those!
Old    Walt (Walt)      Join Date: Jan 2003       12-09-2007, 6:02 PM Reply
That was with the 50mm. I haven't used it in a long time and so I decided to fool around with it today.

I've got to make a point of using it more.

The tilt's are a little pricey aren't they ?

Walt, I was searching around for some HDR tutorials and when I did it on my cs2 I got the same error as you (not enough dynamic range in these photos to construct a useful HDR image). If you save the individual images as PNG files it will allow you to merge to HDR. This file type doesn't hold the EXIF data. Hope that works as easy for you as it did for me.

I don't see a PNG file. Only PSD or DNG and I tried both with no luck.

Yeah, My re-sized one looks really soft.Your re-seized looks pretty close to the original.

I actually didn't use anything to re-size it. I shot it off to a buddy to do because I don't have any good software. I'm going to have to buy some.

Robert,

Eastern washington has such a distinct look. I saw those pictures and had to click on your profile to confirm they're from washington. I lived in E. Wenatchee for about 6 months a few years back.

I took those pics at my in-laws up in Quincy. I will take more come spring. I wanted to go up some higher hills but these aren't my 35's.

I agree with ya, E. Wa. is highly UNmistakable! every time I see pics in the mags I know were it is. I just got my camera and I'm always seeing others posting sick pics. Isn't it addicting!
