Any tips on flash angles and/or settings for doing indoor portraits? Friends of ours just had a baby and asked for us to do a little photo session at their house. I have a 580ex...no diffuser just the on-board one.
I have a friend that shoots portraits and weddings and had me try a technique where you aim the flash up over your right shoulder. Assuming the ceiling and back wall are 30 feet away then you get a nicely light subject without the harsh flash effects of point the flash directly at your subject. I've tried this with decent results but just wanted any other tips for this situational shooting.
I meant in my first post that "if the ceiling and/or wall is NOT too far away". I have found that bouncing off the ceiling pointing foward causes shadows beneath the eyes and nose from the light shooting down from the ceiling. You don't run into this? Thanks for the help.
