Okay…sorry, another camcorder thread. I read MANY past threads, but linked to a bunch of discontinued cameras. Anyway, my wife informed me that we were buying a camcorder....which I have pretty much avoided like the plague for years. Long story short....anyone have any experience with the hard drive cameras? Suggestions(doesn't have to be hard drive)?

The camera is going to mostly just be used by mom, chasing around daughter...... You know, it is going to be something that results in me being on Americas Funniest Home Videos..... CHRIST.......whatever.....

Oh ya....I'm pumped to get one....

I was advised on another forum the Canon Elura 100 was a fine choice(cnet backs this up), but looks like the Canon Elura 100 is a bit difficult to find now. BHPhoto does have it, but for $500....which is higher than the going rate by 25%+.

Thoughts on the Canon DC40 or Sony's DCR-SR40? Both can be had for just over $500....

a good friend of mine thats really into video just got a new panasonic 3ccd mini dv camcorder and its really nice. the quality was is very good for being a minidv, much better than my jvc. It also has microphone input so he put a nice shotgun mic on it to get better control of sound. Overall a very sweet setup for the money. i think he spent between 400-600 dollars on it, i can't think of the exact model number though.
