I have the 05 Hyperlite State 145. I got it because its a bigger board for a bigger rider, like me. It also has an add'l channel for more control on your toeside edge.
Jumps werent a problem on my old board, but when landing it felt like I was sinking. I got the State & landings are much easier. I have progressed really quick with this board, FS/BS/W2W, W2W 180's, surface 180's. I recently started riding a buddys 0'brien Player 143, & I'm liking that one a little better.
It seems to take more work to do some things on the Hyperlite because its bigger & wider.
Overall, I would say the 145 is better for heavier/taller riders, but if your good it doesnt matter what you ride. Its definatley a good board to add to your arsenal.

I to ride last years 145 state im 6 ft 210 lbs and this is my first board i have had that makes me feel like im on top of the water. it has great pop off the lip and cuts hard yet the rails are forgiving for the novice rider like myself. and its nice not to have alot of heel toe drag when your feet could be skis themselves. but its going to be second in line for me hopefully if santa brings me a new 133 LF phish.

I changed to the HL State 145 this year from a CWB 138. The 145 let me stay on top better and for me was much more stable. I went from TRYING to go W2W for the last 2 summers to HSW2W & TSW2W in the first weekend. I took the fins off and love the lipslide feel also and added FS suface 180's. It helped me a bunch in just feeling more in control. I'm 6' 195# BTW

I have a State 140, and it's the heaviest board in my stash. Fun as hell to carve and do surface tricks on, and sliders, but a pain to jump and spin.

I love the state. I rode premier 2 years ago, rode drive and 3DS last year, now on state and like better that all others. I compare it to premier on the T.S. edge and an ERA on the H.S. edge. Great board.
