has anybody done a homemade version of the FAE?

My guess by the time you create your own you will only save a few bucks. My bet is you buy the one that is 100% backed up by the maker and has been tested and proven by the CDC. Just my $.02

Unless you make it from PVC and exhaust hose with a few clamps

No, I it is made from metal and powder coated. I am sure it is the same metal most exhaust pipe is made from. I think the concept is very basic (isn't that true of most good ideas) but the cost to produce would make it harder to reproduce.

www.boatpipes.com has all of the info

got the pic.
That is what i am talking about..
Did you self purchase the pipe or use pipe at the muffler shop?

Is it stll break away capable for the "oh sheet" we just hit something?

Pipe came from the shop. It will break away, only happened once because I only used 1 clamp on the boat side. Put 2 on the boat side hasn't came off since. If you do choose to build your own let me know I'll give you some pointers.

There is a pic of a Nautique (i think) that had something that looked like an FAE. It was really beefy looking. I had it on my old computer but it bit the dust a few months ago. maybe someone else has the pic????

Has anyone tested the increased back pressure on their homemade set up? Make sure you don't void the warranty on that Sanger.

I talked to the owner of FAE, and every now and then he runs an offseason special on the setup. So keep an eye out if your interested. A few of us picked up a group buy on the FAE, and saved a good chunk of change. I just got it installed earlier this evening.

After getting it installed, I realized that this isn't something I would attempt to design on my own. Figuring out all the different angles, welding and powdercoating would be a PITA.

back pressure...Just use the same tube that they use, pretty simple.. by looking at the pictures its not hard to figure out heck Casey's looks pretty good to me from his pics.

Does anyone happen to have a picture or know how one of these works on a bu with a wedge? I can't seem to picture exactly how it would work with the wedge being so large.

First of all the FAE from boat pipes is an awesome product and I would recommend save yourself a headache and buy one from them. Now for us w/ more time and engineering ability than money(cause we would rather drink beer than work) here comes the facts; Can it it be done cheaper? Yes alot cheaper, can you run a 3" bead w/ a welder(or your buddy)?, can you read a tape measure?, do you want to step up and make sure the guy bends your pipe correctly(it has to be perfect)?, do you want to run around town looking for the perfect size hose to attach it to your boat?, and finally the most important qustion, do you want to be screwing around w/ all this when you can call boat pipes give them your credit card number then hit the lake for a killer slash session? If your still interested in the details hit my profile up and e-mail me. Inland Surfer kills it!

I haven't seen the pics of the DIY, but the FAE is 2 into 1, so yes, there will be some back pressure. I just don't know how much on a DIY. Just something to consider...

just use the same tube size as they do and you should be fine. Remember that the exhaust on the boat is over sized already.
