A formal American Wakesurfing Association wakesurfing tournament ain't gonna happen this year in Central Florida.
I have had discussions with The Wakeboard Camp in Clermont, Fl about holding a tournament at their location, but the property owner is building a restaurant and obviously and wisely doesn't want wakesurfers mixed in with bulldozers. This restaurant/bar will be very cool and accessible by boat.
Performance Ski and Surf (Orlando's best watersports equipment retailer) showed interest in being a sponsor and a local Malibu boat dealer agreed to provide the official tow boat.
A couple of Moomba boat owners and I are now planning a Central Florida Wakesurf Fest.
This will be held at Lake Louisa State Park in Clermont, Fl. and open to anyone who wishes to learn to wakesurf or improve their wakesurfing skills.
We will have an informal wakesurfing tournament, complete with judges (who may know something about wakesurfing or who may have never seen wakesurfing before).
Lake Louisa State Park is the location where the American Wakesurfing Association was first invited to attend the annual Supra/Moomba Jamboree to put on wakesurfing clinics for the owners of Skiers Choice products. A historic occasion.
If any of you board manufacturers would be interested in donating to this 1st Annual Surf Fest, please contact me thru Jeff Walker.
Further details will be posted. 1st Fest will be held in late July and open to anyone with any in-board boat (no exposed propellors).
