Who all weight lifts? I have been lifting 5 days a week for the past two and a half years now. The first few times i ever tried wakeboarding i heard "man you will be so sore"....I have never once been sore from riding other then from hard crashes. The only down side is being big and i feel like i hit the water harder haha.

I lift so I dont look like a slob when I am putting on my vest. I think the cardio and legs help the most. Also, when i dont lift I find my forearms and hands getting fatigued much quicker. I guess I should do more rock climbing to help that. I have been wanting to spend more time strethcing casue my flexibility sucks. It hurts just watching someone do yoga.

I have been lifting for the past year and I'd say it is what single handedly made me land my 3s finally. Having strength to pull yourself around and hold on during sketchy landings is great. I do some basic stretches before I ride as well, find that it helps and decreases the 'warmup' time... I do mostly upper body but legs as well, good good deal

i try to lift 3-4x/week minimally, but lately I've been slacking due to the job..

I lift and do cardio as well. It definitely helps and the cardio helps get you an extra set in before you are completely dead.

I lift almost everyday but alternate weight and core workouts. I also do alot of lifting using an indo board and exercise ball. Anything that will help with the core muscles from all the 12oz curls I do in the winter.

been working out 3-4 days a week and doing cardio for 15 min, it makes a huge difference. less injuries, more stamina = more riding time. and i like the way my vest fits a little tighter now

More cardio and litl weights now. Heavy lifting screwed up my wakeboard. My body was overtrained and tierd all the time.

I have sex atleast 5 days a week and if you add up 5 days plus the 3 minutes it takes me I would say I do cardio about 15 minutes a week.. for some reason it doesnt seem to help my endurance on the wakeboard

i workout at school for a class and it seams to help, just gotta keep it up in the summer months

I've been lifting weights for like 15 years and think when done right, it's a healthy thing to do, these days though you won't catch me at the gym more than once a week.. Like some of the previous posters, I workout with wakeboarding in mind and believe it helps me avoid injury..

bikramyoga.com. Its all core strength. almost two years of bikram----no injuries !!!! in the gym situps, push ups, free weights high repetitions little weight concentate on form, 3 times a week max.

i lift 3-4 times per week and do the same work out each time, 3 sets of 8 on bench with 5 clap puch ups in between sets, then 3 sets of 12 on weighted lunges with 50-60 lb. dumbbells with a burnout set of dips in between each set, then 3 sets of 8 on hang clean with 6 knee to the chest jumps inbetween sets, then 3 sets of 8 power press with 3 sets of 8 trap pulls inbetween sets, then finally 3 sets of 8 squats with 6 squat jumps inbetween sets. then i alternate running and ab workouts after each workout. i believe explosiveness is what its all about

I take a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class. It builds crazy core strength and keeps me nice and flexible

I'm probably the first girl to respond to this, but I lift 4 times a week. I have at least 6 days of cardio, and everyday has stretching. You can gain muscle mass and still be a wakeboarder, but remember flexibility is KEY. Also, don't forget or abuse your core muscles like your lower back and abs. I'm working on a personal trainer certification, and the more I learn about the way your body works in general, they better I have been able to respond on the water.

lower back training is probably the single most overlooked aspect of physical training, regardless of sport.

Get out and do those deadlifts and good mornings people.

Its amazing that almost everyone I ride with uses wakeboarding to "stay in shape" and I train for wakeboarding.

I lift.......at work! 10,000 Lbs. a week
(30-40 lb. boxes) It's a good workout, but not exactly like lifting in the gym.
I do believe it helps with my riding though.
(Hey, I have to keep up with the 20-somethings somehow!)

The wife has started working out 3 times a week.
She's not wakeboarding yet, but will be in great shape to start in the spring! (She's been slalom skiing for 20 years, so riding should be no problem for her!)

My 12 year old son is stoked to try boarding next year, too! Should be a great summer!

Courtney it sounds like you know your stuff. I lift with a friend that also just became a personal trainer. I do chest on monday, back on tuesday, legs on wednesday, shoulders thursday, and arms on friday. I have also been running or biking 2-4 days a week. I never used to do cardio because all i wanted to do was put on size and get big, but i was getting bored with that so i am changing it up a little.

took so aikibu-jitsu in college and the gym where i go is offering aikido, so I'm in on that now. just waiting for the classes to start. can definitely say in need to work on lower back. its the only thing that got tired last time I rode. everyone wants nice abs, so i tend to keep them in shape. but the roman chair, i need to spend more time on.

I work-out. I've been slacking lately, but I do more flexibility and cardio stuff than actual lifting right now. But I intend to start lifting soon. Don't forget to stretch your back and core muscles like Courtney said. Especially before you go out and ride, it makes a heck of a difference.

I will vouch for the core strength and back exercise but mine never seem to get stronger just ull out after two ruptured disks and two back surgeries.

I've been working out for about 7 years. I spend about 2 hours in the gym 3 days a week. It doesn't make me a better wakeboarder, but I wish it did. Wendi

I used to lift. . . Never worked my rotator cuffs though. Couple bad crashes and my shoulder is toast. It's been three months and twenty pounds of muscle since I've been to the gym. Totally worth it though. I think:/

I go to USA Stars gym in Moore OK. My Sensi name is Joel. I don't know his last name. The main sensi is Pat Burris. He mainly is a Judo guy but he is very skilled in all martial arts. Frank Trigg was trains at my gym with Sensi Pat
