maybe if you dont want any DOF. minimum aperture of 22 really sucks. F2 or so is good depending on your application.

The max aperture is the critical element when evaluating a lens which you didn't list above. I would guess for that lens it f4-5.6 or somewhere there abouts. In the Canon world the sigma 70-300's are not considered a particularly great lesn but the price is right.

I am sure the Nikon 70-300 F4/5.6 autofocus G with a retail price of $199 would be better? This lens is in the D50 package that I may buy?

I just did a little research and it appears that the G lens is not great either. There are good reviews on, he recommends an older autofocus Nikkor 70-210 F4.5/5.6, which I just so happen to already have! So I am good to go. If you want one they sell used on ebay in the sub $200 price range. One more thing, Ken Rockwell also says that there is no difference between the D version and the slightly older non D version like mine so don't worry about that.

One of the sites I saw when researching to buy my camera had a review recommending that lens. I would guess that it would work great for wakeboarding.

I would be curious if the VR really helps with wakeboarding pictures?
