moomba ballast and weighting

i have an '06 mobius xlv with the 1950 lbs of factory ballast. i am looking to at least step up to larger sacks in the back but i don't know if i should ditch the stock sacks and just buy larger ones or t off the stock setup and add a second sack to each compartment. also i was wondering if the is any way to add weight to the mid section with other than people.thanks

i have an xlv as well and i have 2600lb of ballast, i have the 1100lb front bag and i swapped out the rears for the fly high 750lb bags, i love the wake!

the stock ballast on the 06 xlv is not 1950lb, closer to probably 1200-1400lbs

stock ballast is 1150lb but the stock upgraded is 1950lb

cody, hwo big are your rear bags? I haev a pair of lightly used fly high 750's I may be willing to trade for your pair. I have an 07 SSV and want bigger bags in the rear. What are the dimensions of your current rear bags? How much weight are they?

entrust: thats what i am considering doing i've heard good things about going up to 700-750lb rear bags. are those easy to find it seams like the ones i've seen are too long.
adam the stock rear bags are 400lb each and are approx. 12" tall x 18" wide and about 4' or so long.

entrust: i was also just wondering (assuming you have this option) where do you usually set your wake plate and do you keep it trimmed down more now with the larger bags in the rear

the 750lb bags are easy to find and like $150 each i think.

if im full weighted i run the plate about 1/2 way, that seems to be where it works best for me.

cody, I ahev 400lb bags itn eh rear too, I thought you may have had the gravity games bags that are 550#'s. you cna get the dimensions for the 750's @ fatsac.com. they are too big for my lockers.

entrust: at the beginning of the season i started running the plate around 1/3 to 1/2 up but recently i have been having to trim down completely to keep the wake from either shooting a tube or washing, thats why i was asking this seems strange to me and i am also sort of worried about adding more weight to the stern if i already have to stay trimmed down.

hmm im not sure, i like a really steep wake so i tend to run it more up, also sometimes i don't fill the back bags all the way, so there is maybe 600lbs in them a lot

yeah i also prefer a steep wake but i also try to keep a clean lip. how many people usually ride with you? do you keep them up front or in the back?

i have anywhere from 3-8 usually, i usually try to balance people out around the boat

thanks for all of the help, maybe tonight it will be calm enough for me to really be able to try some different adjustments. usually i just get everybody taken car of from side to side to make sure i get an even wake maybe tonight i'll try to get everything situated throughout the boat and start trying to really perfect the setup.

Cody, check to make sure your front bag is not getting full of air. We had that problem on our 07 LSV but now we just check it every few times to make sure it is ok and full of water, not air.

I have been waiting for this kind of thread. So check this out. My 07 XLV GG bow bag does fill up with air while towing. Once I drop in I turn on the pump and burp it. I know that one is 1150lbs. As far as the back I have been trying to find out how many pounds they are. I did read that the back stock are 400lbs each but they are huge. They cant be only 400lbs. 12" tall x 18" wide and about 6' long. Sean, are they 750lbs each? As far as weighting it beyond that I put a 750 in the playpen and 2 600's on the floor with 5 peeps and little to no plate. With more people I dump some weight. Curls too much. With just the stock ballast full and 5 peeps I find the plate at 1/4 is perfect. And with no ballast, no bags and 5 people the wake is incredible at 1/2 to 3/4 plate. I love this boat. Anyone know the best way to weight it for surf?

I have a 05 xlv and just got a 1100lbs front bag. We love it full and 600lbs in my two rear 750's. I have a hard time surfing my wake, but I weight 200 pounds. My buddies are smaller and have no problem. I have even tried putting both bags in one rear locker 1500 pounds. I need to try that with the bigger front bag.

I like your 05 graphic better then the 07 on mine. I had the same graphic on my 05 LSV. So far I fill the bow ballast, then the back ballast that I want to surf on, then strap a 500lbs bag on the same side on the seat and play with the plate. Pretty big and clean but always room for advice.

We have the 650 bag in the fron and two 750's in the back and a 150 that we move around in the cabin to balance it all out.

Boarding they are all filled, wakeplate about 1/2.

Surfing I fill the 750 on the side that we are surfing and the front bag full. Decent wake but I need the time moer than anything to play with it and get it dialed...

nick, yea my front bag was full of air. when we out the last couple times we have been running all bags full and wake plate just over 1/2 way to 3/4 trimmed up and it has been real meaty.
and todd i'm pretty sure the gg edition comes with 1180lb sac up front and two 550's in the back instead of the 400's but moomba doesn't tell you that because that would put you over your uscg approved weight rating.
ballast and weighting is no longer a problem for me, now my boat likes to dance, it does a nice shimmy shake. thanks to missing a blade on my prop. thats right a 3 blade doesn't run as smooth as a 4 blade.
the strange thing is i don't think we hit anything and the other blades seem to be in pretty good shape and one is just missing at the hub. sweet huh, guess i'm out to look for a new and hopefully better one, any suggestions? other than a 13.7x17.5 oj

the 13.5x17.5 is the worst prop ever for a weighted boat

i run the 14.25x14.5 its money! with 4000lb it still gets up and goes!

I just upgraded to the 14.25x14.5 prop on mine and I was amazed at the difference, delta propellers had the best deal I could find on the prop. With full factory ballast a 500 lb sack in the front walkway, 4 ppl and about 1/2 wakeplate and the wake was great and it still got on plane quickly.

nice thanks guys i have to talk to the dealer today about warranty stuff so i'm going to try to talk him into reimbursing me on one instead of replacing mine.

Definitely the 14.25 X 14.50 OJ! I had the stock one on and it was a pig with weight. Changed it for the second outing and BEST EVER! Many of my friends are now getting the same prop.
Cody, yeah...still don't know for sure what those back bags are. I think Entrust(sean)said 750, you said 550, and the site says 400. lol

todd, entrust might be right they might be the 750's i'm not sure hopefully they are the 750's i guess.

and to everyone else, for surfing adding weight to one side on the xlv doesn't seem to help the cause. make sure to keep some weight up front or trim down a bit to make sure that you are keeping the wake open wide enough for surfing. if you angled right at the boat and still dipping your front heelside edge try trimming down some.
