I live in Canada and my husband and I want to go on a wakeboarding trip next winter with my sister who lives in California. We were thinking about renting a boathouse on the Lake Powell, but does anyone have other suggestions? We would like to go somewhere on the west coast. Thank you!

While being warmer than Canada, its not exactly summertime in the winter months. Houseboating on Powell is fun but before April you will want a drysuit.

Lake Powell has to be one of the best places to go on a wakeboard trip, but like Stephan says, it will be cold water in the winter since it is fed by rivers that are fed from snow run off.

Powell in Sept.- Oct. best two months of the year... IMO also Lake Mead can be very nice well into late fall/ winter (Message edited by rio_sanger on July 18, 2007)

I would recommend Shasta also, but like Brett B. said going to be chilly. Your best bet would be as south as you can go in California for the best weather. Maybe Lake Havasu or Meed?

Powell, Mead, and even Havasu and Lake Martinez will be c c c ccold in the winter. Warmer than Canada but not balmy pleasant at all. Daytime temps may hit high 60's or even low 70's but the water will be 50's or possibly very low 60's. I vote Florida.

what's 60's and 70's and 50's and 60's when you're coming from 40 to minus 40 and 40 to frozen?

Great thing about Powell, especially if you went that time of year, if you go out of your way to find one of the less traveled coves, you could spend a whole week and see maybe two other boats pass by your area.

Thank you all for your suggestions! We really appreciate your input! Dave, aren't there Alligators on the St. Johns River?! Can it be dangerous for the riders?

Don't worry about gators they are everywhere in Florida, and from personal experience I have never been bit by one in my lake so I wouldn't worry. Haha thats reassuring I hope, in the winter the water is great in Florida no one else is on the lake and I went all year with just a wetsuit top.

Central or South Florida. In the winter, the water rarely get below 60 deg. Dont worry about the gators, especially in the winter...
