Ok so I've got a friend who's looking at buying a 1995 Gekko, 20'. He wants to use it mainly for slalom skiing, but the occasional wakeboard run for those who might be with him. Anyone have any experience with these boats? What are their strengths, and weaknesses? What are some things to definitely look for when giving them the once over?

The boat seems to be listed at a fairly cheap price point.

Thanks for the help.

No personal experience with one. However there is a crew on our lake that has one and they slalom behind it and then they sack it out and throw down. The wake doesn't seem to hold them back at all. However the thing does look like it is about to sink when they really sack it out.

I owned one. Use the Fat Sac Seat in the rear and a 500 lbs in the front for max wake with only 3 people. More than that, it will go to mush. For slalom, the wake is tiny, but firm. Tracking through the course is fantastic. They are fairly well-built. The main issue is corrosion under the dash board. Unplug everything and hit with PB Blaster and a stiff brush. Steering has a zirk fitting for lube - keep full of grease.
