Can I be happy with a 190 prostar as my first boat purchase? Or should I just pony up the extra dough for a 205 or Bu Sunsetter,or Outback? Would be nice to have an open bow and a little bit more room, but would also be nice to save some cash. I don't need all the bells and whistles. I'm not a super advanced rider or anything like that. Just basic w2w's heel and toe right now. Would like to have an invert or two down within the next year or so. I've ridden behind a 190 without a tower and without weight and can imagine one with a tower and with weight would be more than sufficent for me for the next couple years. Keeping in mind this will be my first boat and a few mishaps are bound to happen. Any thoughts on 190's as well as first boat advice is appreciated.

You will be very happy with it. My family owned a 89' Prostar 190 before we bought our new boat. We put a little over 1000 hours on it and have nothing but good things to say about it. We ran two 600 lbs sack's in the back and the wake was great, big enough to learn raleys and some mobes on. I would recommend getting a tower though, we just had a pole and pretty much any size rider would pull the boat side to side significantly.

While I agree that you'll have plenty of fun and the wake will work on a 190, I would recomend getting a 205 if you can afford it. The extra space for ballast and people will be worth the extra cash and may save you from buying another boat in the near future.

Just my .02. The 205's are sick boats and if you get one that is late enough it has the same hull as the x-2.

one of my best friends has one... hes got one of those fat seats in the back ... it throws one massive wake when you got that thing full...

I enjoy skating behind it

ive got a mid 90's ps and i like it alot. the wake of course could be larger but when properly weighted it throws a fine wake. you wont be able to ride at 75 or 80 feet. i found that with my wake its best to ride @ 20 mph @ 60 feet out. i would not purchase a ps from the eighties(my previous was 86) as the hulls are much shallower and they are dangerous when you load them down. plan on removing the back seat and using a fat seat or the wake will be non existant. the ps is rock solid and has no wood which is nice. with all that being said if money isnt that big of an issue i would try to get a 205 as that is the same hull as the early x-stars. if you plan on taking out more than 2 or 3 people most of the time then dont even consider the 190 its simply to crowded. good luck

I have a 2000 prostar 190 with less than 100 hours.... want to buy it? Good price... will deliver half way there....

It's an ok boat for wakeboarding. If you plan to put a lot of ballast then don't plan on more than 4 riders... gets really crowded really quickly.

It of course rocks as a slalom boat, which of course is useless to wakeboarders, but it is fun to drive unloaded... handles like a race car.

My first boat was a prostar 190. It all depends on you and what you'll be satisfied with. I was happy with mine, it was a great boat. I eventually upgraded because as my riding improved I wanted a bigger wake, and because we wanted something with some more room. Buy an older one at a good price and you can sell it later in order to upgrade and you won't lose much at all. I actually broke even when I went to sell mine.

Very happy with mine!!It's a 93..pic in profile..BEST first boat to own. I have 1200 hrs on it. I carry 500lbs of lead always, and add a few sacks, you can't ask for more...yes an open bow has more room..but quality also should be an issue..
