That is crappy. At least he threw up a peace sign. How might I ask did he cut his hand off? Something tells me the prop MAY have been involved?

The story was pretty vague.

Wow that sucks. I wonder if it was the rope, or an I/O surfing incident.

Watch your riders out there...

Jeff: One of my riding buddies rides an 04 Byerly. If you grab that thing Tindy you run the risk of stitches. I dont even like taking it out of the tower racks LOL.

Seriously sad. Never cool to hurt yourself doing something you love. Everyone once in a while we have to remember that our hobby of choice can be dangerous. Its easy to get really comfortable out there and get lax with safety.

Everyone have a good weekend. Watch for the drunk guys, try not to be one yourself. Don't need any tragic stories on tuesday.

Where is the story? How do we know that guy was even wakeboarding? Am I missing something obvious?

Bump.

Just a reminder on being safe on the water.

Why yes it is a small world… it turns out a friend at work knows this guy from his home -town high school…. And was telling me about this today at lunch.

The story I heard is that the guy was shooting video of a friend wakeboarding while sitting on the edge of the boat and holding on to the tower…. The rider fell while some other boat or pwc was in the area and the driver made a fast turn around to protect his fallen rider. It appears the guy lost his balance and reached for the tower and rope as he fell over backwards from the boat. Not exactly sure on the details of speed… but short story seems to be that he got hung up on the rope and severed his hand. Ouch! Another friend in the boat was able to dive in and retrieve the hand…. But they were unable to reattach it at Harbor View Hospital.

This is why drivers get very expensive tickets when someone sits up on the rail while the boat is under way. This really sucks. I hope he keeps riding.
