By older boards I am thinking anything before 2000. List 3-5. #1 Obrien Phatty - nothing to this date has a higher waist to tip ratio i don't think. That board was truly OBESE! and it had the most interesting bottom channel design i have seen to date. (anyone know the reason for that design??? I'm guessing to speed it up, but if so, how??) I almost bought it, but chickened out last minute after hearing about it breaking a lot. #2 Wake Tech Flight 69 - I've sat on it before (converted to a bench), but never rode the legendary first twin tip. #3 Wake Tech Byerly - the original Byerly pro that was plain white and blue. Ive always liked his riding and boards and would like to ride one of the first. #4 Neptune Impala - I remember reading alot about the Neptune Impal's impact on the sport #5 Any legendary board from some of the original companies that i have never ridden a single board of ex. (Full-Tilt, Blind Side, Double Up, etc.) }

I want my jeff heer board back (1997 maybee). I bought it on saturday at the us open (greenvile, NC) and did my first invert on sunday. I talked to all the pros at the time and parks watched his run on my camcorder. Props to the pros of our sport for being social.

Man this post makes me feel old. I worked at a shop back in the day, so I rode a tonne of the old boards. My favorite were the Wake Tech Byerly's, Mutiny Schmaltz, and Labal had some great rides; the Chubber and the Caddy (I think that's what they called it). The squirt was pretty insane when it first came out too...Connolly wasn't CWB yet...double up was the next big thing...Chase Heavener, Thomas Horrell, Shannon Best, Mike Weddington...yup, I'm getting old.

Blazer- I remember all of those guys too. Your making me feel old. I wish I had my 1996 hyperlite honeycomb 142 board. Not only to ride but just to hang on the wall. I learned most of my tricks on that board.

Yea, my boards in order where the scurfer, the obrien schredder, obrien double ender, hyperlite jeff heer, hyperlite vero, parks, 3ds. I still remember how the jeff heer board whisled when you cut out into the flats. If I remember correctly Mike Weddington was a NC/ lake gaston rider which was as local of a rider as I ever had growing up.

Good thread. Nostalgic (sp?). I've got an old Neptune Impala in the basement. Believe it or not, my wife rode it for 8 years before finally getting a new board this year. And, whatdya know, she says she think she likes the impala better. 1st board I actually paid for was the great Blindside Charley Patterson from 2000. Purple, with the sexy tree woman. That thing was a blast to ride with the little wood fins.

Yea, I was trying 180s with the shredder and eating it pretty bad. I never thought it was the board because shapearo (sp) could land either way with his pointed board. Once I got the double ender, life got easier.

I still like getting on my '80s??? Rampage yellow and blue skurfer every now and again. It's the only board my wife will ride. I'm still trying to get her to try wakeboarding again. She just never got over the 1st couple of faceplants. By the way, anyone know where to get some new footstraps for a skurfer?

I'm still riding my '97 Liquid Force Best. I haven't found anything I like better. I would actually buy a used Impala if I could find one. A friend of mine in college had that board. It was super fast! Back then, I was riding a Connelly Razor. That board was practically flat on the bottom.

When I first started riding it was the summer of 97. In the offseason my friend and I scoured this site to see what boards were coming up for 08. I really wanted the Full Tilt Mega Man. He had his eye on another Full Tilt. I never bought mine and he got a great deal on a Weddington so he never got his either. I'd still love to get my hands on a Mega Man.

I had a Mega man board back in the day as well. Also, it would be cool to get back on the obrien double ender. The phatty was an obvious choice too. Wow, the memories

"Neptune (maybe it was the Impala...but it had this crazy turned up nose & tail)" I dont think you are talking about the Impala. I used to ride a yellow neptune that had a turned up nose and tail. cant remember the name of it though. I rented it a few times, back when I was demoing a lot of boards.

How about the Liquid Force Squirt? I always wanted to ride one but never got the chance. Seeing Gator ride that board in Mayday made me a believer! His tantrum and HS 5 off the double up were insane.

Thomas, was it the Neptune Six? Thats the board I learned on. The edges were pretty much rounded off and the tip/tail was slightly turned up from what I remeber. Great learner board back in the day

I picked up a skurfer at a garage sale a while back for 5 bucks. Though I've yet to take it for a ride, I have to say the hot pink is a nice touch.

Man I would love to find one of those skurfer Blasts or the Yellow one. I remember telling all my friends "Skurfing is lame, why do that when you can kneeboard. It is just a fad, I am gonna ride my Obrian Magic..." Course I also had a Betamax player.

Adam - I think it was the "Six". I know I have an old picture of me on it somewhere. I need to find it. I do wish I had my old Skurfer. I tossed it in the trash, after I broke one of the straps.

What was the board that Murray rode in detention? I've wanted to try that one forever because Detention was the movie that introduced me to wakeboarding.

Here's a video of me back in the 90's riding a Phatty. After I retired the Phatty it hung on my wall as a decoration. It had the meditating elephant that looked like he was smoking a joint. Different from the one in Jeremy's pics. http://john.panelmagic.com/w800kbps.mpg I used to have a MegaMan but never got into it. A buddy of mine got one of Weddington's prototypes and I loved it. So I picked up the first retail one I found and it didn't feel the same. My first board was a Connelly Bladerunner. It was a surf shape but compression molded. I landed my first 360 on it. My first real board was a Fly135, hence my internet name. I don't know how I ever rode that board. It was way too small. But I landed my first invert on it.
