Pro Fiberglass http://www.profiberglass.com/ and Liquid Wrenches are both in Livermore. The fiberglass guy at LW did some repair work on my buddy's X10 and it looks great. I just won't go back there based on my last service experience.

Another bump for liquid wrenches. I've had great luck with service there. I had the gel coat guy there do some custom work on my boat and it came out amazing.

hell no liquid wrenches are a joke. they are pretty much thieves in my mind! The quoted me one thing they said it was easy and sure enough when i went to pick up my boat they said it was twice as much they said we didnt know it was a merc engine. how the hell could you not know when you do that for a living and inspect the boat first when i dropped it off. then they said well if you dont like it dont come back. The guy i seen working on the boats i tried to chat with him he didnt even speak english so i wonder how he could be certified. Best part they told me they had to charge more becuase they had to run the boat b4 they were done. funny thing my batteries were dead i wonder how they did that w/o any juice???? Smooth as Glass in Riverbank. Jeff the owner is probably the only one you will talk to during the whole process, he takes care of his customers. A little more pricey probably but you get what you pay for in my opinion. I have had them do work twice, and you wouldn't even know it.

I've only been to Liquid wrenches once, and they treated me good. I usually do my own service and gelcoat work. I was very hurt at the time, climbing in and out of boat trailer was hard, so I had them do it. The gel work I had done was great, they blacked out behind my air vents. Easy custom job, but it was great. With that being said, the guy in riverbank sounds good. Enough refs here to back it up.

Nick: "hell no liquid wrenches are a joke. they are pretty much thieves in my mind! The quoted me one thing they said it was easy and sure enough when i went to pick up my boat they said it was twice as much they said we didnt know it was a merc engine. how the hell could you not know when you do that for a living and inspect the boat first when i dropped it off...." I didn't want to get specific because I know many people have recommended Liquid Wrenches and hoped my experience was isolated but apparently it was not. They quoted me around $450. for a 100 hour service (not in writing...lesson learned). When I picked it up the bill was around $780. He said it was because the MAG350 has a special distributor cap that costs more(He's been working on ski/wake boats for how long and didn't know that?). That still didn't make up the difference. Then he said he had a new girl answering phones that didn't know the correct pricing. No offer to discount anything to make it right. Then to top it all off, the boat wouldn't idle due to a 1.49 part (oil soaked IAS filter in the throttle body). Also the battery terminals were so corroded, the boat wouldn't start intermittently. All this on our long awaited vacation 250 miles from home. When I got home I took it back to LW. He diagnosed the IAS filter and said he would have to order it and it would take 2 weeks. He never called me back which is great because the next day I drove to Inland Marine in Antioch and bought the in-stock part and installed it. Problem solved. Sorry for the rant and I know this was about fiberglass but I don't trust LW and people should know the games they play. The fact that Mike never called me back was proof enough that he couldn't care less about his customers.

Again, Smooth As Glass, my dad bought a 94 Cobalt that was weathered to say the least, by the time they were done with it it looked as good as new. Glad to know if anything every happens to my future boat I'll have a place to take it. Tour the boats that Jeff is working on and you'll know what you are dealing with and you can decide for yourself.

Are these the same company or something because I was planning on taking my boat to profiberglass at the end of this season but "F" that, after what I am reading here.

Les, Not the same. Liquid Wrenches is a full service marine shop and storage on Preston Ave and has a gel coat specialist (don't know his name) that has a great reputation. Unfortunately he works in that shop. I have no experience with Profiberglass other than I know they were on Graham Ct. off Vasco Rd. and they always seem to have business in their shop.

Just thought I'd close the loop to the story... We ended up choosing Benny's Custom Marine to repair the gel on our boat. They did an EXCEPTIONAL job, we’ll be customers for life… If you’re ever in need of gel coat repair and you live in NorCal you won’t be disappointed. They were more than reasonably priced and only had our ride for 2 days. They’re in Tracy near the corner of 11th Street and Chrisman… (209) 830-9378
