Went to Folsom this morning and got a notice that they are enforcing A no loud speakers on the lake. Seems to me that the law is the most ambiguous law I have seen. Says that if they are at a volume that is likely to disturb others you can be cited. Not sure probably an infraction but I think it could be fought in court.

I knew you must have been the cause of the flier after seeing your setup and that you go out on Folsom. LOL You need to wake up the residents on the South Fork in the morning. Not many people to complain on the North Fork.

Tennessee passed a law that says if your stereo can be heared more than 50 feet away you can recieve a ticket for disturbing the peace. I've never seen it enforced just a matter of time.

I've only been behind a couple of boats with good tower speakers that you could hear clearly while riding. It is definitely cool. It's fun to ride with music. That being said, I will probably never get tower speakers for my boat. I think it is kind of obnoxious to the homeowners around the lake. What if you lived on a nice quiet road in a nice neighborhood, and some fool kept rolling by all day with his windows open and thumping the bass? These systems are getting louder and louder... the line needs to be drawn at some point. <ducking in a corner, wearing a fireproof suit> (Message edited by yooper on May 29, 2007)

No fireproof suit for me, thanks. I agree with Jamie here. If I can hear your stereo from 50 feet away, I personally think it is too loud. Good for Tennessee. Part of using a public area is learning to respect others. A blaring stereo is no different than a power turner. Sure they have just as much right to the water and they can power turn to their heart's content, but I'd prefer they not ruin it for the rest of us. You may think your music is the best but odds are most people on the lake disagree.

I run a loud system now, and I think you can still be reasonable and responsible with it. When my rider is up running along the shoreline, I turn it up. When my rider goes down, I turn the sound down quickly to avoid blasting the houses on the with my music while I'm turning back to my rider. I don't think a loud system is any more irresponsible than a bass boat running at 70mph across the lake, or a hotrod boat running straight pipes, or a jetski running wide open, or a sea plane taking off. There's plenty on noise on the lake that could irritate home owners, and unless law enforcement wants to keep everyone quiet I don't know how a ticket could stand up in court.

Straight exhaust is much worse, but they go by and the noise is gone. The stereo going for an hour bugs you more if you can't put on a song you want to hear.

I think it's all about courtesy. Learn how to turn off your tower speakers when you don't have a rider and this wouldn't be an issue.

Wait a minute! That's what I see in my head when folks go on and on about the stereo systems in their boats. How on earth did you get that image out of my head and into an image file?

There is actually a max Db level at a certain distance that ANY boat can be at on ANY body of water in Cali. The Sheriff actually have the authority to take the "equipment" if they feel like it. We were pulled over a few years ago and given a warning.

That picture of a small boat with 28 visible speakers is amazing..... It is an outboard boat. Outboards have diddily squat for alternator output, how can he possibly drive all those speakers? Probably doesn't need ballast, his battery bank would have to weigh a 1000 pounds. Rod

Personally I care more about the wake, since the yellow boat probably throws something ridable, that is where you would find me. Rod, that was my first thought too when I saw it, my mind went with tiny alternator.

There's no question that I'd rather be on the wood tower boat. Those guys are showing initiative. They might not have a lot of bucks but they probably have a lot of fun. The guys with the speakers are just tools.

RD, I don't think you will have any complaints on that comment right now. I think it is funny that someone did it and then the women really aren't giving a hoot about it.... just too funny.
