Vibration sound under load

I have only been in two inboard boats in my life, and one was a short demo. My 2004 B52 planes very well with 3-4 people and no ballast. When I have full ballast (2K lbs), and a few people on board, the drive train sounds like it is working a lot harder right out of the hole. It still planes out great, but it sounds like there is a vibration, but I don't really feel anything. Is this normal for a loaded boat? Is it like cavitation?

check your tranny fluid

It could be a prop that is tweaked just a little bit or your drive line may need an alignment.

Tranny fluid is full and new. The prop is new. The sound/vibe is only audible under heavy load. Does anyone else's boat sound a little different with a bigger load starting out?

Did it do the same thing with the old prop?

All boats sound different when you are trying to get out of the hole with a lot of weight. You can really hear and feel the engine working and as I think back I guess there may be a slight vibration when you are really loading the boat and maxing the engine.

If you do not have any vibrations when you are at cruising speeds, then it is probably just normal noise under load. A slightly bent prop will make a vibration with and without load and usually gets worse the faster you go. I have never been in a boat with a bent shaft, but suspect that would vibrate more or less all the time too.

My 2006 B52 V23 went back to the factory for a vibration problem and using too much oil. MB said they could not find anything wrong. Turns out that they did not even look at the motor or drive train, so my boat came back with the exact same problems. You might call the engine manufacturer and ask them for some trouble shooting advice
