Wanted to go to take the family to the mountain and do some snowboarding, then It hit me why we don’t ever go anymore and we own a boat instead, just for two adults & 3 kids for one day over 400.00, stay the night add 200.00 more, no way I just cant justify paying that much, even though I love the mountain, just don’t think it will happen, unless I skip a boat payment, but I don’t see that happening either, anyone else feel this pain……..

Oh yea. So I find ways to make it happen a bit cheaper. Bought a car from Dave Smith Dodge & got lifetime season passes for Silver Mt., about 40 minutes from my house. Makes it a lot easier.

I just got back from skiing a mole hill in PA today known as Whitetail. Only 4 or 5 trails "open" (and I use that term loosely). 2 lifts open. Crappy conditions (effectively skiing in slush). ~ 10 inch base.

Cost: $51 for a 4h flex ticket.

Had I brought the wife & kids, I would have spent > $200...FOR 4 HOURS OF SKIING!!! And that doesn't include the 1 1/2h drive there.

Never again will I bitch about $120 to fill up the boat. At least I can get 3 - 4 days of fun w/ the family on that...

Dan you are so close to the "heated" lake why would you bother skiing.

Dan my wife and kids were at Liberty today and she said how bad the conditions were. I don't even want to ask if they had lunch up there as I know that would have been a couple hundred dollar day. I was lucky enough to work all day so they could have fun.

I live within an hour or so of several mountains and I ALWAYS think about how much it cost me for a day on the mountain with my 2 daughters vs a day at the lake! Most lift tickets around here are ~ $40-50, plus gas to get there. Easy $200 day on the mountain...the lake is a much cheaper option, but it's a little chilly for the water around here right now!

Ken, I went up to Hood yesterday, add cold, snowy, windy, but you can't put a price tag on riding untracked all day on 2 ft. of powder!

John,
I would go to the heated lake, but my boat has been winterized and the people I know who haven't winterized have to "work" this weekend.

Brian (LKA_SUPRA24SSV), yeah, I forgot about the added cost of eating there. By myself, I can go w/o food, but w/ the wife & kids, it almost pays to not hear them complain about being hungry...
