I am looking to add more/change the ballast in my boat.....never seems to be enough right? I have a 22 foot Moomba Kamberra V Drive and currently run a 750 lb sack in the ski locker, a 200 lb sack in each engine compartment, sometimes a 300lb sack in the bow and fill another 750 sack just behind the drivers seat. That is what I wish to change. My problem is that I have two batteries in the right engine compartment that seriously limits the available space for larger sacks.
I have found sacks online that will hold 450 lbs each and fit in my engine compartments. But I need to move the batteries out. Has anyone else had the same problem and moved batteries? Is there a better place? Does it matter if it generally stays dry? Not that the compartement stays completely dry all the time anyways..

Well - sorry for the long thread - thanks for the help!

For the battery compartment staying dry, no they dont have to as long as they have a cover on them. Our pontoon battery is in the back right by the outboard motor. Where it is, it is constantly exposed to water and dampness, not like water is dirrectly on it since it is in the case but there isnt really a need to worry about the placement as long as it is not submerged or exposed to extreme heat.

As for the placement, maybe in another compartment.

good luck, hope this helps
