Got 15000 grand. I was wondering if you guys could just list some boats to stay away from and ones to look for. I would like an open bow, but i am not too picky about that. Super!!! Wonderful Thanks

Something like this would be perfect. ( i have no association with this boat, am simply stating that it has a reputable wake, and an open bow configuration in your price range.

The early 90's Sport Nautiques are very nice as well. Sack em down hard in the rear and they kick a nice wake.

A little out of you price range but found this one

MC 205

I found those 2 in about 2 min. Just for reference check www.boattraderonline.com and www.correctcraftfan.com

Both of those are great places to start.

As for my suggestion and I know this is a can of worms but in your price range you are best off with a Mastercraft or Nautique. I have had both and they are both great boats. The newer Malibu, Supra, Moomba, etc are great boats but IMO the older ones were not as well built (94 or older). One great thing about Masterraft is that the 80's and 90's models did not have wooden stringers. Nautique has them up into I think 1989. I don't know about other brands though. Just remember this, every brand has good years and bad years. MC and CC have made a name for themselves because of years of quality control and finding what works.

I have a 99 XStar and I would not buy a 99. Great boat but little things like the interior is not as nice as the 2000 or newer. Even the 98 and older MC's were nicer inside than the 99s.

I used to ski behind a 96 Sport Nautique and we slammed that thing with tons of people and a sac on either side of the engine. That wake was awesome!!!

Hope that helps

Those are all nice boats, but my Credit union said that i have to stay in state if its private sale or if buying out of state go through a dealer. Thats my dilemma. But as far as what to buy i think that i am starting to catch on. Thank you for the help. I will keep an eye out!!!

Good luck, Jason! I picked up my Sanger for close to 10 with all the extras. Absolutely love the boat but they are uncommon in your area. Saw a Super Sport for 18k recently.

You mention Mason in your profile. What's the lake like now? Some of my best memories as a kid are from that lake but I haven't seen it since the mid 90's.

Mason is good in the mornings but too many boats out there on the weekends. Just like all the lakes around Puget sound. Its still really fun though. Always a good 4th out there.

You could try some of these:

93 Malibu Echelon:
http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/boa/310622716.html
SV23 Wake hull, you can fit a wedge to this boat.

85-89 (can't tell) Ski Nautique 2001:
http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/boa/312058258.html
Needs a tower, but a sweet wake with ballast. This one's a little expensive, see below.

If you don't mind going to BC ($16800 CDN = $15000US)

85 Ski Nautique 2001

87 Ski Nautique 2001:

What about early ski centurions?
Old     (kevin_bird)      Join Date: Dec 2002       04-22-2007, 9:57 PM Reply
I would stay away from the Centurion you are not gonna get that much of a wake out of it. I would def get an MC or Nautique. And if i had the choice the Prostar 205 in the early, mid 90's would be it.

our 96 VLX was only 15k, but you aren't gonna find a deal like that without looking for a while.

search boattrader every day for the type of boat you want, the good deals are gone in a hurry. There was a 97 VLX in great shape on there for 17k last week.

Whatever you do, don't just go out and buy some old inboard(centurion) just because it is in your range, get one of the boats that has a proven wake.

Older VLX or LX's, 205's, Super Sport Nautiques, etc.
