Grease coming out of bearing buddies

Recently we repacked the my trailer bearings and after a couple tows i noticed that there is grease all over my rims and seems to be leaking out of my bearing buddies. Could there be too much grease in them or have we repacked all 4 incorrectly? There is also no cover on my bearing buddies so the grease nipple is visible. Are the grease nipples suppose to have covers over them?

There is a little weep hole on the side of the bearing buddies. If you over fill them grease will come out of this hole and make a mess. Hole is there to keep you from over pressurizing the hub and blowing the seal out the back. The covers are not required just keeps road grime from getting on the zerk fitting or the piston seal. They will help your bearing buddies last longer. So not required but recommended for the couple of bucks that they cost.

I always check behind the wheel at the hub to make sure that grease is not being forced out the seal. I blew a out a seal and did not know it until I was going sixty miles an hour down the highway, and looked in my side view mirror to see my wheel bouncing down the highway.

So from then on I always check the back.

Would the hubs get warm if there was too much grease? i added a little grease before we went out and tested the boat last night and noticed the hubs where a little warm which concerned me. Once we got home, and some of the grease had obviously flung out of the bearings the hubs felt fine

jason, does yoru trailer have brakes? the axles with brakes ( hubs) will be slightly warmer. Teh hubs will be somewhat warm, but not hot. IF they are hot, somethig is not right. I belive there are front and rear seals...maybe the front seal is bad and letting grease escape thru it.

PS I hate bearing buddies and greased bearings. Oil bath bearigns are so much easier to deal with and I have never had issues with them, only bearings that use the buddy bearings have I ever had issues with.
