If I had a boat with a 50K system in it - I would NOT be leaving it in the marina @ Lake Sonoma

its because some boats have 45 grand in lighting and 5 thousand in amps and speakers. other boats have 49 grand in speakers and amps and 1 grand in lighting. dont be afraid of the big boat.

Don't worry. The X80 is not in the contest, but it will be on display in the shop.

I don't know where the 50k number came from. I think this is what you're looking for.http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/3183/438379.html?1177108007

Ya I could see where all the money would go there. Its a stereo piece of art. Id be afraid to take that thing out onto the water if it were me. But I guess that if you had that much coin to drop on a stereo and boat it probably wouldnt matter. But none the less nice work.

Rich, I think the idea on the price came from your quote in that thread.

"A similar system, depending on the gear,(speakers amps etc.) would cost between $45,000 to $60,000."

I think if alot of people were honest about what they spent for their high end systems you would find a few $50 thousand dollar systems out there they might not post here or are just lurker's. But trust me they are out there.
I know at least 10 systems that cost more than alot of other people's boat's. Some might call it rediculious. Differnt strokes for diffrent folks. If you got the money and your into it what the hell! "ROCK IT"

The nice thing about these BBS like this is that you get people from all walks of life. Soemtimes though people forget that what they have worked hard for may come a bunch easier for others.
I often think of a friend of mine whose Dad owns a Mustang that is likely worth over 5 million dollars. Yes that's right over 5 million. Ok, not just a mustang but a 1 of 3 ever built GT500 Super Snake. One is no longer with us and the other sold at Barrets this year for over 5 million.
What do you say to a situation like this? no way, not worth it? Somebody with more money than 99% of us here has already disagreed......with cold cash.
Those that can't appreciate this level of refinement/rarity will never understand $50K on a system either. Just move on.

What you spend your money on is your business. Some people collect stamps that cost more than some peoples houses. I see this as rediculious. You made the cash you spend it how you see fit. What some people see as a waste of money some people see as a good investment in their fun. Example I see diamond rings on some ladies hands that cost more than a boat and a 50k system. Not many people disagree with this kind of spending? I guess a diamond ring has more resale than a few W-7's LOL. I just look it it cost vs enjoyment. The thousands of dollars I have spent on my system and the hundreds of hrs spent building it have given me way more enjoyment than what I have invested in it.

I think the hesitation for most is not about if they can afford it, but even if you can, would you. I can and won't. But, I do enjoy reading about what everyone has done and am lucky enough to have known G a long time and watch all his projects evolve. He is an artist, period. I would by lying if I didn't say that occasionally I wince at the cost of some things, but not everyone would agree with my 1460 sq ft $900,000 house either.
