I'm surprised that there hasn't been much talk about what Austin Hair is doing down under. I always knew he was a great wakeskater, but what is he doing coming in second to Daniel Watkins on a wakeboard?? This is Aaron Rathy territory and Aaron was the Rookie of the Year in 2006.

Not only did Austin almost win the event in both wakeboard and wakeskate, but he beat guys like Keith Lyman, Jeff Weatherall, Keith Lidberg and Dean Smith. How come this guy isn't getting more love? What up wit dat???

I sent a shout out when David Hair posted it 4 or 5 days ago and was also surprised at how little support he got. For a first year pro playing in the big sandbox he's doing awesome. Contest riders need love too.

I met Austin at nationals in Indy. He gave my nephew his tournament jersey. I was impressed that he was a double threat two years ago. He was 3rd on pro tour in jr men and 3rd at worlds in jr men and won worlds in pro wakeskate. I wondered myself why he never got any attention. Nice to see him getting some. Nice kid who really made an impression on our family.

Check out his interview on Supra website. The very last question is which is harder, wakeboard or wakeskate. Reed Hansen reaction is hilarious.

It is great to see this written about Austin! I don't get on the computer much (I'm always in the boat)but have to add a coachs thoughts! Austin is a tremendous athlete that has worked so very hard over the past few years to earn the podium in both wakeboard and wakeskate! Good work Austin! We are all so proud of you...can't wait for you to come back and kick some ass at home this year!

Dave- Thanks. Austin and I both enjoy your site. It is the place to go for all things related to wakeboard. He has limited access in Australia. He is traveling and riding with Dean Smith, Lidberg and others and staying with the Cliffords at times. I don't hear much from him.

He is enrolled at UCF and taking classes on line. Austin lives and rides with Nick Jones and Justin Savage in Orlando.

He finishes up this Sunday in Melbourne for stop 4. Heading back home for a quick snowboard trip and then back to Orlando.

Man i remember riding against him about 3 years ago in bakersfield. He was killing it then, but after watching that video of him just now its like a whole different person. If you havent watched the clip yet, do so.

Congrats Austin thats sick. Your definately on a whole new level. Best of luck in the future, keep killin' it!

Just spoke w/ Austin. He won the Australian pro tour in wakeskate. He got 9th in wakeboard today and 10th overall (maybe 11th).

Dean Smith won the Brisbane tournament and the AWPT Tour for wakeboard. They have been hanging and traveling together during the tour so I am sure they had a good time celebrating last night. I told him to post some pics when gets back on.

He hasn't had internet access so he hasn't been able to read these post. I told him about it and he was very humbled by it.
