So this boat is on private property. The good news, The owner is pretty cool about people shooting and checking out the boat. There's a sign that reads...Take nothing but photos and leave nothing but foot prints. The bad news, You have to get past two of his pissed off dogs to shoot it. So I'm rolling up on this boat with camera and tripod in hand and here come the hounds. The first dog was an old dude so he crapped out after the first hundred feet and turned around. The second dog was a big young buck (lab) and he's really pissed off. He charges up to me barking & growling with the hair on his back going straight up. I'm thinking I'm going to have to clock this dog upside the head with my tripod. So there we are a few feet apart at a stand off. I've been around dogs all my life and my instincts tell me this guy means business. So I look down and there is a nice thick stick about four feet long. I'm thinking I'd rather give him a whack with that than my nice new tripod. I slowly bend over to pick up the stick never taking my eyes off my new friend. As I pick up the stick I instantly see his eyes go from, I want to chew you a new A-hole to, are you going to throw that for me ? So I throw the stick for him and he goes tearing off after it. We're tight now !

Darin, 1 & 2 are great. 2 might be a bit centered. Killer color in both. I find #3 boring.

For some reason I can't get the one to load, thanks for the input, I just like #3 for a background, but just love the other two, hard to believe everything was shot with a point and shoot, can't wait for my SLR, it's in the mail

Nice job on finding the interesting subjects Walt and you're really getting the mood down well with the HDR. That's really a nice way of making what normally would be a pretty lifeless shot given the lack of contrast a real appeal. (either that or B&W and I like the color much better myself) I went to Asilomar to shoot birds and saw that rock out cropping about a hundred yards out with the waves really pounding it and that gull was not going to move for anything! Here is another one I shot that day, nothing special I just liked the colors of the sea/sky.

Here is a fun one! I think you will enjoy it! p.s. Josh, I love the guitar hero series. I do think it could use some "80's Mist" though. Fog machines aren't that hard to find. (especially around halloween) Check out a Guitar Center or costume shop. I would just water down the liquid a bit though since it can gunk up the machine.

And I popped the handle but oh well. HAHA! Its a long exposure using a pen light to "paint a picture" Then you just flash yourself in at the end. It is a lot of fun to do. It is an easy way to kill a couple of hours and a lot of fun!

Adam, I know this late snow storm was pretty lame, but, the 2+ feet of powder up @ Mt. Spokane this weekend was sick!! Now it's time to hit the water.

I know it, its getting old. I'm ready for some golf and some wakeboarding. Co-worker said they probably got close to 4 ft at 49 in the last week. Plus it's ski free week all this week! Thought about taking today off but couldn't do it... Sorry for the hijack. Great shots Walt, the clouds really make the bridge shots, very nice.

Walt, I'm blown away at all the great shooting places and times you're finding - way to go! Ryan - love the tree Nick: nice landscapes although in the lighthouse shot the sky is looking kind of a weird blue on my monitor. Some macros I did today with a Tamron 90 macro / 25mm extension tube/ Nikon 6T diopter (which is probably about 1.5 to 1. ) I thought shooting birds was tough, those darn bugs don't sit still very long and you have to manually focus.

The diopter and the extension tube compresses the DOF down to hardly anything. Plus you can't use AF at all, I had to set the lens and then rock back and forth snapping the pics when the subject comes into focus (tripod no good for bugs, they don't stay still long enough!) The end of the lens is about an inch and 1/2 from the fly/flower/bee.

Thanks Ryan. It looked pretty good but I thought that it would be more interesting in B&W. It's a HDR shot done in CS2 with some additional work also done in CS2.

We've been staying at Los Barriles - baja all week with some friends of ours who built there a couple of years ago. It's cool to watch the sunrise over the ocean for a change which is something that's tough to see when you live on the left coast! Meager accommodations! Sunrise from the bedroom Sunrise closeup Mexican pets.

Walt, Yes, the bird shot was from the Aquarium in Newport, OR. We were there a little to early to have the mass population of birds around in the open from what we were told. Wasn't quite breeding season.

Yea, they may be a little over saturated. I'm still trying to figure out this editing program I have. Photoshop should be coming soon... Is the barn out of focus on that type of shot always going to be typical? If not, how might one fix that?

You decide if it's out of focus or not by what F/stop your using. If you want everything sharp then go to a higher f stop. IMO the barn is a distraction in this shot. My eye wants to look right pass the flowers to the barn. If the barn was the focal point then you should of focused there. Just my take on it.
