Whats The Fastest Boat Under $500???

So i was at the Toys R US today to buy some hippy hops for next weekend, when something caught my eye....

was a Nikko RC speedboat. Well to make a long story short, i am now a new boat owner. problem is i always want the best, i need a faster boat.

Anyone know about Radio Controlled boats? What the best, and fastest one i can get??

there are nitro powered outrigger hydroplanes that can push 90-100MPH actual speed.they are expensive.Check to see if Prather Products are still around they have some nice Stuff you might like.

I have a Supervee 27 from Aquacraft and have been generally pretty happy with it. Bang for your buck if you're looking for something quick it should be on your short list.

Stock it runs around 35 mph and will get into the mid 40's with some mods (prop, good batteries, etc)

I was at Walmart a few weeks ago and saw the Malibu one and bought it for $20. I was so excited until I put it in the water and it moves like a slug. Its perfect to put a beer in and send to a friend out in the water though.

Many years ago I had a 40" Aeromarine Jesse James Catamaran with a K&B 0.80 nitro motor. It would run over 50mph, easily outrunning my ski boat and most boats on the lake for that matter.

It was perfectly balanced to run on a cushion of air trapped in the tunnel between the hull rails. I could chine walk it enough to lift the front of the hull causing it to catch air and flip.

Everything was fun and games until one day I lost radio control at about 40mph in the bay at Discovery Bay. Luckily it hit the rocks. Barely even did any damage to the hull. If it would have hit a boat or a person at that speed it would have been ugly. Decided it was time to sell it, ironically the guy across the bay ended up buying my boat from the hobby shop.

If you want real speed nitro is cheaper but a bigger pita than electric.

electric is a pita because you have to charge the batteries all the time. I have an electric boat, with two motors. put 3 battery packs in parallel and it runs for 5 minutes, 45 minutes to charge them all (I only have 1 charger) due to this inconvenience I used it maybe 20 times and then it has spent the rest of its life on the shelf.

nitro is the way to go. One of my friends has a 4x4 truck that will do 50. Can get to 70 w/ a 3 spd tranny. You're probably lookin at $500 or so to get setup. Don't mess with batts.

Also try your local R/C hobby shops in you area.

Local RC guy built a levee jumper out of some aluminum and a weedeater. It would run about 70.

As with all of these things there is a lot of r/c equipment on eBay. But it seems like you're kind of new to this so I'd advise you seek help from a model shop - they'll be able to set you up with all the gear. You will not be getting boats like those in your clip for less than $500.

I would spend $5-700 and get one with a weedeater engine on it. It will be much more reliable than the nitro boats.

You can run the nitro in a weedeater too.....just plan on rebuilding it more often. 35% was the norm for the ones I've seen.
