Shooting football

Hey guys i play football and i want my dad to get some pics this friday at our first home game. Now im the photographer in the family but my dad knows how to use the basic functions of the camera (zoom, focus, shoot). I want to set up the camera so he can just do these things and not have to worry about going though a bunch of settings to get good shots. So my question is what are the best settings to have set up on the camera for capturing football shots? We have a Sony Alpha A-100 with a 4.5-5.6/75-300 lens. Thanks for any help you can give.

Day or night game?

Cloudy or Sunlight? Your best bet is to just throw it on Aperture priority at 4.5 and let him rip. He won't have time or the knowledge to switch shutter speeds. Also, there is probably going to be a difference if part of the field is in the shade or not.

If it is at night throw it on a high ISO 1600 or so. (But at 4.5 your shots will probably still be blurry) If it is durring the day you should probably stick around 400 just to be on the safe side. you might be able to get away with 200 but you want to keep that shutter speed high so a higher ISO might be the ticket.

The game will be at night under stadium lights

Night shots with that set are going to be tough.
