Hey guys/gals I need some help with a family DVD that I recently acquired from some relatives over the holiday weekend. I figured I would play with it a bit for my mom considering my dad is in this video and we lost him a few years back.
Here is what I am dealing with and perhaps one of you could help me understand how to go about doing this or what program to use.
The DVD has 2 folders in it one is VIDEO_RM and the other is VIDEO_TS, in the TS folder there appears to be video files or what I am assuming is video files. They are labeled with a file extension of VOB I have tried bringing this file into Premier with no luck. I guess what I need to know is how would I get this into a format that Premier would understand? Or is there a specific way I should go about getting this video into the program?? I have never messed with editing videos off of DVD so sorry for the ignorance on this matter.
Thanks for any help you can give.

You need to get dvd-ripper software to convert the dvd video files into something that Premiere will understand. Even then, the dvd files are compressed and will probably not end up looking very good in Premiere after editing.

Try the following:

1) Play the DVD in your normal DVD player. Hook up your MiniDV or Digital 8 camera to the outputs on the dvd player. (You will be using your video camera as a recorder to capture what's on the DVD)
2) Import the video from your camera to your computer with Premiere
3) Now you can do whatever you want with it.

i dont know how much luck you will have with kung fu's method. i tried that in the early days of dvd and dv, and it would just give me black horizontal bars across the screen rendering the video useless.

Thanks!

I found the following. If my technique doesn't work, then give this a try.

"You can use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD Movie into your HD and then use Vidomi to compress it into .avi using DivX.
Vidomi also allows you to cut off any sections you don't want or you can use VirtualDubMod to do the editing.
"

Scott - Normally this technique will not work with porn... j/k

I just noticed... I originally posted "outputs on the dvd player."

You should hook up the camera to the outputs on the TV where the DVD is playing. Most TVS these days have RCS on the front that you can use for this.
