My friends are not very dependable with the videocamera, so I have been thinking about one of those mounts to hold the camera. Saw the one below on a post a few months back, and am wondering if anyone has any feedback on it? Also, is there anyone else making something like this? $329 seems kinda pricey. http://www.wakevideo.com

Chris - I went out with a bud last weekend that has that one. Was very impressed with it. It has a flywheel like thing in the box that gives it momentum so it is smoother than other models. I got the Topmount version myself in December and was happy with it until I used this one About the only thing I didn't like is that it is a little noisy.

Thanks for the word Skip. Couple questions if you don't mind. Do you prefer the under mount or above? Is the video the same quality from both? What is the noise from? And last, do you really think it's worth the price? I still have a problem with shelling out that much. Thanks again.

Chris, The one that mounts below would interfere with my speakers, so I went with the Topmount. Otherwise, the one that mounts below is a little easier to use. My friend also got the lcd mirror thing, which makes it easier to adjust and is way cool. As far as I could tell, the view is similar, except the tracking is better with the new one. Neither one is shaky or anything. The flywheel thing has a bunch of gears that make it turn real fast. I think the gearbox cover kind of amplifies the noise the gears make so you hear a "whirring" noise when you review the video. Not a big deal, but kind of irratating. "worth the price" kind of depends on your situation I think. If its a stretch to come up with the funds, maybe not. But if you have the coin and like taking video of your day, to me it's worth it. Like I said, I was happy with the TopMount I have, and this new one works better and looks better too. I'm just bummed my 5 month old model is obsolete...

I was told by the owner that they will have a new top mount version with the flywheel soon. Hopefully by the end of May. Give him a call. I am waiting for that one to come out. I have the same issue with the tower speakers.

Tate is right, we will have a new TopMount Trakker with Inertia Wheel Drive (flywheel thing) available in late May. The gears are fairly expensive, so it will be $30 to 40 more than the previous TopMount. Will remove the TopMount from the website this week and post a notice that anyone that bought the TopMount in the last year can return it with a check for the difference in price and we'll upgrade to the new version TopMount Trakker. Skip, Glad to hear they are working well for you. As for the noise - that was one of the very first units you were using that he got at a very reduced "demo" price. We changed out some gears and tightened the tolerance on the parts so is much quieter. Will never be totally silent, but is barely audible on the tape now. As for the price - yes, it is more than our older models. We used to focus on making them as inexpensive as possible to stimulate demand. You can still get those on our website or at Overtons/Barts. For the new models, we are all about making them work and look as good as possible. Anyways, hope that helps.

Hey Bryan, yes Mike had said it was a test unit. Guess I should have mentioned that. I wasn't trying to bash the product, I thinks it's awesome but was just trying to inform on the strengths/weaknesses. I'm stoked to get the new Topmount trakker. Any pics? Will the tracking arm be short like on the Airtrakker Pro? I would like to move my speakers in some if it uses the shorter arm.

Skip - No pics yet, will post them soon. The tracking arm is much shorter with the Inertia Wheel Drive. Extends approx 10 inches behind the tower. Web site is http://www.wakevideo.com

Thanks all for the input. I went ahead with the Tracker. UPS dropped off yesterday, is pretty sweet! Can't wait to get out on the water now that the rain finally quit and the boats back from the shop.
