Anyone had a problem with their TAPS motor/pump not working? It makes noise but the plate doesn't move up or down. Anything simple I can check before paying to have it fixed?

Mine quit working last year. I banged on it with my hand while the boat was on the trailer and it started working again - it was just stuck. Sounds like you may have a more severe problem.

I think you can check the fluid level (like brake fluid) underneath the observer seat. That's were mine was, it may be different on your boat.

It sounds like a fluid issue to me. You can use automatic transmission fluid to fill it.

eb,
Give the guys at Waterski Speciality a call. They will be able to diagnose the Taps issue for you in short order I am sure!

Sometimes my guage sticks. I just have to hold down the taps button and tap the guage a few times and it drops.

I've got a 2002 20V and it failed on me once. Just like BigD said, I pushed on it when it was out of the water and it's worked fine ever since.

I've had the same problem as kelley - I thought the gauge broke and then one day I hit it and it was fine. So now I just tap on it if it's not moving and it works every time.

I have heard that if you continue to push the up/down button after the plate has moved all of the way into it's furthest position ( either up or down) it can damage the seal and therefore stop working. Mine has been fine- but I am pretty careful not to hold down the button after the plate is all of the way down... just a thought.

Thanks for the input. After further investigation I found out one of the hydrolic cylinders had cracked so the hydrolic fluid was just leaking out. I ordered a new one and should be good to go once I repalce it. The dealer here in Denver said he hasn't seen one crack before but has seen a few where the seals give out.

Eric, could you just use some JB weld to fix the cracks? If so that would be much cheaper the buying new ones. Stuff is hella strong.

Dude, it's a tired argument.. And as a rep for Malibu and Ultimate Watersports, if your best sales pitch is to bash other brands then I am happy to never do business with you...

Yup, I would never do business with "Chucky" either. I'd probably by a tige' just to piss him off.

Don't you think MALIBU GUY has a dorky ring to it? Or is he just not very imaginative?

He just didn't have time to think of something better, he was too busy fixing his "wedge"!!!

Check with your dealer or the factory. I was just told that the TAPS has a 4 or 5 year warrantee (I forgot already the actual length). If you are the original owner it may still be covered.
