I just bought a 1999 Ski Centurion Elite V-Drive from A seller in California. I live in Arizona. The boat registration was simple but getting the trailer done has become a hassle. They want a title for the trailer but the seller did not have one. Anyone know if trailers in CA require a title? Anyone ran into this issue? About ready to tell them that it is custom built but not sure what to do. Any help would be great!!

IIRC, yes they do....

Lionel, Can the seller just request a duplicate from the CA DMV without having the traler anymore? Does he just need to give the VIN off the trailer?

Thx for your help,
Justin

They have gone to what they call a paperless title I believe but there should be a way to transfer ownership. Have you contacted Ca. DMV?

FWIW I bought a boat/trailer in TX. The trailer did not have a title. I had no problem getting DMV to title and register it.

I tried to contact the CA DMV but they do not have anyone I can talk to. It's all automated. I was told the same thing before I bought the boat about being paperless title. Just not sure what I need to provide to the AZ DMV when they ask me for the title.

Trailers are not titled any more in CA. You can get one if you pay extra but it is not SOP. You should be able to use the bill of sale or at worst pay the $17 (ish) for a title.

Good luck
