I know alot of people on here are from the Austin area so I wanted to find out what some of the better schools in the Austin Area are, both Jr. Highs and High Schools. I have been a High School teacher for 16 years in AZ and our economy and schools are getting so bad you don't know if you will have a job from one week to the next. Basically my GF and I are thinking of making the move with our 3 Jr High aged girls sometime in the future. I am sure I will continue teaching and coaching but don't want to get stuck at a bad school, but I am not looking to work at the premeir HS either as they have their own issues. Just looking for some options of where to look. AND please don't post any Austin sucks stay away posts

Austin Westlake. Great school from what I hear. It is in a more affluent part of Austin.

How is the housing situation around that area? Gotta find something on a teachers salary.

Austin ISD sucks. Eanes (which includes Westlake HS), Lake Travis, Leander, and Round Rock are all good (for Texas).

Housing hasn't taken as big of a hit as much of the rest of the country has. I think about $220k is the average home price, but $150k will get you a modest house in a decent neighborhood.

Good to know. I looked at salary schedules and would take about a $5K hit for the first 4 years since I have been teaching in AZ for 16 years and also coach 2 sports. I know they are sports nuts there and coaching jobs are hard to come by. So we'll see. Just seems like everyone that lives there really likes it. Are the lake really crowded like they are in AZ?
