So I have been working on a new portfolio site as a class project and decided to cut a demo reel for the home page. This is a mix of school projects and actual client projects. Check it out and let me know what you think.
All content was shot, edited and created by me with the Panasonic DVX100b, HVX200, Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects, Cinema 4D, 3DS Max, Illustrator and Photoshop.

sick graphics work dude! unfortunately, that's where my skills are lacking.

if this is your reel, i'd seriously re-consider the music. i think it's great for an action sport segment, but for a reel, i don't know. but then again, we all have our own taste so i could be way off.

here's my reel. don't be too harsh with mine.

Thanks Joe. I made this reel just to sit on my portfolio site I had to create for school. I don't think I would send that out as my professional reel.
Your reel looks good. Sick shots and angles. The cuts were great to. The only thing I would say is stay away from evolution for a demo reel intro. Looks sick and thanks for the coments.Check this out. http://library.creativecow.net/articles/hansen_jaysen/growing/video-tutorial.php

Those are both great guys! My heads' spinning just thinking about all the work you both put into those. I thought the soundtracks worked for both - high energy.

My only suggestion Joe is to maybe do something more subtle (a static fade/in-out?) with the title/name information instead of those pans you used at the beginning and the end of your reel.

My sense tells me unless one is really good with motion graphics it's best to stay away from them and stay very basic. Although the way you handled the logos and everything else in your intro looked very pro to me. It's hard to get away with simple 2D movements these days if you're trying to compete on that level.

A very minor nit though - I'd be proud to be able to show people either one of those!

thanks rich! it did take me a while but it probably would have taken brett a couple minutes to replicate the graphics in my reel.

brett, please don't misunderstand me. your reel was super sick! i guess the music was just different from the other reels i've seen. that doesn't mean it doesn't work. great stuff man!

My comments for what it's worth.

Brett's use of AE is amazing... But Joe's cinematography really sets it off. For me, the AE graphics is cool and as someone who dabbles with editing, I totally admire it. But sometimes it felt like it was a bit much. Unless that is the purpose of your reel, to showcase your talents. Still I wish I had even a percentage of your skills. Joe's editing is what I inspire to be. Clean.

Good job to both of you.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. Joe, I totally understood what you are saying. Like I said , I don't think this is a reel I would give a potential employer. I would like to have two different reels. One for cinematography/Editing and another one for motion graphics and 3D.
Thanks again for all the compliments.

Ya great reel guys. I wouldnt say stay away from Evo & Riot gear and what not, not everyone knows about it.

The only note i would say is if you want to highlight cinematography you should have a separate reel that is 30 sec. to a 1:30 in length of the best shots that you have.

I dig the music on both, i hear all sorts of music in different reels, but thats what makes your style stick out from everyone else you know?

Im in the middle of re-doing mine, but check out what ive been gearing towards lately. This is the Intro into a feature that i just wrapped up. (The site belongs to me & buddys new company)

Yep Travis, that was cool!

I'm glad I'm to old to need a reel because if I did I'd be screwed!
