Blown speaker - making a 10 sound like a 12

Not really boat related but...

I was running my alpine 12 in my car for the past couple weeks, it went into the boat last week and I have been trying to make my 10 sound like the 12, here is the result.

Thats bad right?

Mike did the voice coil explode or did it melt and when you pulled the woofer apart you pulled the voice coil apart with the woofer?

Grant...correct me if I'm wrong, but that photo looks like some of the new JL Audio stuff? Is it the marine grade stuff that is supposed to come out this summer? I've been looking for it, but I've been told it is not available yet.

Yeah, Mike-- Get some W7's or if you are not a fan of the last part of the alphabet, you can get some L7's!!!

It was a Dayton 10" in my car running when it self destructed. There are several burn marks on the voice coil. I think it overheated and the glue holding the VC together let go. It over extended itself and stuck there. You can see where the paper cone was started to fold from over excursion. It's rated at 200 watts I was pushing 400 through it and wondering how long it would last.

I have another Alpine 12 on the shelf when I get a chance to open up the mounting surface of the box.

Not only am I cheap, I am also lazy...
