Yesterday, I got to do something that I'll likely never have the opportunity to do again in my lifetime: Sit behind the wheel of an honest-to-god supercar. So, I thought I'd share.
I work next to a local exotic car club. Members have the usual - Astin Martins, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, etc. Nothing too exciting..until yesterday. This thing make them look boring by comparison.
This car is owned by the North American distributor for Gumpert. It's a 2005 Gumpert Apollo. It was the first car off the "line" in 2005 (serial number 001). I think this car (not one one like it, but THIS car) set the lap record at Nürburgring at the time. The guy I talked to said there are currently only 49 of these cars in the world today. Price ranges from ~$500K to $700K, depending on options. I think you can have this one for $400K.
This thing is RAW! It's a GT class race car that's street legal. It has full racing seats with 5-point harness. The seats are not adjustable. No forward, no back, no up, no down - nothing. If you're too tall or too short, you simply can't drive it even if you can afford it. You have to remove the steering wheel to get in and out. It was pretty much the most uncomfortable car I have ever sat in. And I loved it!
