Since I hate the sound of things banging against the back of my boat I talked my Dad into building me a transom saver. Here are the pics! It turned out great!

We used Teak. It was kind of expensive at the lumber yard, but what other option was there?
I think I paid $17 a boar foot and the smallest board I could get was an 8 foot piece.

Looks great, nice finish, but I'm always amazed people are make them so wide. It can easily be half that wide and still work. Why give up so much surface.

I guess we made it that wide because thats the way they are on the new MC's. I just copied their transom saver. Except this was a lot cheaper than buying one from MC!

How did you secure it to the platform?

Stainless steel screws from the bottom.

You can get teak from teakworld for $8/board foot, in fixed widths (4", 5" etc), they are great to work with. The only thing I found locally was $23/bf at a fine woodworking store . TeakWorld 615-444-7269, they are real nice to work with.

Here is my project from last weekend, I narrowed the board and added 1/2" spacers.

Dave,

Super nice. Great idea with the spacers. Did you just create the spacers out of Teak as well?

And how did you fasten it all together. I'm guessing your spacers are more like thick washers and you are fastening through them. Right?

Nice job as well!

Dave I've never noticed a hatch in those platforms before. Is that factory or did you do that. What purpose does it serve?

It's so you can pick out your wedgie.

Yes, the spacers are out of teak, (actualy out of the piece I cut off to make it narrower. They are like thick washers, as a matter of fact after splitting a few, I had to drill them out a lot so thr screws wouldn't split them since the spaces are pretty small and I used large screws. The top board is heald on at the 7 points I have the spacers, SS screws from the bottom. If the spacers don't work out, I just pull them out and use slightly shorter screws.

Wedgie , Yes its for deploying ad retracting the wedge on Malibu's
