I guess that really isn't a batwing since he's grabbing the nose, but more technical I believe.

the last two are stargazed out sideways.... credit given but not stylish in my opinion. Thats why shane keeps his straight up and down...... AND then take it to fakie! Check out Ross Gardners batwings..

yeah ricky's do go stright up and down and BIG but shanes just seem alot more tech in his body postion. tech normally doesnt constitute that theres much style but in order to comepletely sound like im contradicting myself, shanes are just so smooth and stylish too.

Paul, if you think about it a batwing is a TS Raley with an Indy grab. Technically a TS raley has the board parallel with the water thus making the ones you don't like more legit. They are also more difficult of the two variations because of the positioning of the board. Granted they might not look as cool but it's more technical in my book. the sideways ones are just glided out indy grabs not an actual TS raley IMO.

Here is one. Sorry don't have it from a better angle though.
Old     (wakeriderixi)      Join Date: Jan 2004       09-10-2005, 10:45 AM Reply
Big Heavy thanks for input... makes sense technically but more pro riders consider vertical more legit, in Orlando anyways. And as far as parellel to water being 'harder', most(if not all) beginners learn them with the board more parellel to the water. That or the board just floated out behind the rider. And then the issue of what a Batwing technically is...... well if you call it a ts indy raley yes parellel is more correct, BUT, growing up in the style of most floridians you throw that whole ts indy raley out the do as being ONLY a ts indy raley. And a Batwing is ONLY what Shane is doing, and Ricky does, above.

That being said, this is VERY debatalbe and my above statement is only to give you, and others, another way of seeing it. Because, I also did appreciate your insight into the whole mess as well.

Thanks

and for your input Big Heavy, I have come up with a great poll question for Mr. Dave Williams..

Which style of Batwing/TS-indy-raley do you prefer?
-Board vertical to the water
-Board parellel to the water

should be fun?!!

With wakeboarding, being essentially an expressive sport, it's all a matter of opinion. Being legit is a non-argument
Old     (wakeriderixi)      Join Date: Jan 2004       09-10-2005, 12:49 PM Reply
well not really..... you've got to ligitametly do a trick correctly. Its just in the argument of Batwing.... its not written in stone that a Batwing is a ts-indy-raley. If you were to break it down thats the closest you could get. But say a KGB is only liget if you actually do a heelside backroll with a frontside 360.

Ben I know it's your son and all but isn't Tony Left foot forward? Wouldn't that make that and incredibly awesome Indy Glide.

Paul, a KGB is a Backroll with a BACKSIDE 360. A Mobius is a Backroll with a Frontside 360. How else is a KGB legit? It's pretty simple backroll BS 360, wrapped or handle pass. I don't know any variation except grabbed and taken to 5, please explain.

To me a Batwing looks like an Indy glide except it's TS. Why it got a special name I'll never know. That is the only weirdness I have with it.
Old     (wakeriderixi)      Join Date: Jan 2004       09-10-2005, 6:15 PM Reply
I apologize... i meant backside... and what I meant was that backroll with bs3 being called a KGB is written in stone, no question that is what it is called. Whereas some will argure a Ts indy raley is its own trick with respect to a Batwing.

And Rusty's indy glide he does in Butter Effect was SICK!!! Very much looking like shanes batwing. Watons indy glides to fakie or straight are also SICK but dont look like batwings.

And since you brough up the KGB i gotta call out Sean on his handle pass KGB 5.

ps. One day I will start to form correct grammer and puncuation in my posts, sorry!

i think everyone can go do a big flip or spin. but doing a huge air and grabbing with style is where the pros are separated from the ams.

batwings and hoochies are incredible.

extension, extension, extension.....thats what i like to see. Full arm extension like Zane up above but alot is attributed to late or early picture capture.
Old     (wakeriderixi)      Join Date: Jan 2004       09-13-2005, 11:54 AM Reply
Harf for sure Tweaks his out but it doesn't get as vertical as Shanes. Also, alot of people can get a nice clean one in but alot of people's have the look of going out as aposed to straight up pop that Shane does and is known for. Lyman, I don't think of him doing a batwing unless it's to blind... and it's pretty Sick! Watson's is so smooth and laid back you can't not like it... I typically like the robot-esque pop-snap that shane, ricky, etc. do into their batwings that Watson doesn't do but Watson can't really do wrong with anything he does. In Buttereffect he does a Hl w2w Fs 180(not grabbed) and I think it just shines with all his other tricks.

For batwing to fakie (awesome trick) Shane and Murray do them awesome. I'm not the biggest fan of Tino but with the slides he does i'm sure he's got a good one too!

And then theres Parks' at the double up contest. Didn't land it because of knee issues but that was an amazing batwing!

Wes Brisco's are SICK!!!!!! He grabs it crail when the board is straight up and down, then tweaks it out so it is parallel to the water.(toes down) SICK!

Oh I almost forgot, he also does that same thing to blind!!!!!

not a batwing, but more like a tindy glide, as it looks like he came off of his hs.

nope..OA front side. If it was a HS jump from a reg foot rider.

If it was a Tindy glide (goofy foot rider) he has a lot of balls for rotating it that far.

The more I look at it now though, with the way he is focussed on the boat, it looks like he is going to land back on his heel edge.
Old     (dakid)      Join Date: Feb 2001       09-13-2005, 10:42 PM Reply
i don't know. to me, it looks like a goofy-foot rider, doin' a tindy-glide of some sort.
Old     (twakess)      Join Date: Mar 2002       09-13-2005, 10:46 PM Reply
look like he has pulled the nose back and twisted his hips. I bet once he lets go it will rotate right back to a ts landing. I bet it looks awsome for inside the boat.

This pic looks about the same as above, but from a different angle and he's grabbin in the middle. It was a bat wing.
Old     (jarrod)      Join Date: May 2003       09-14-2005, 8:22 AM Reply
Not the same if you ask me. The last picture, the guy is looking towards the shore for the landing, not towards the boat.

You def could be right Joe.

I can vouch for Rob that his batwings are sick. Not to mention his batwing to blind.

if i remember correctly, my vote was for his batwing to blind to win at spring fling. or was i that drunk? i might have to go watch the video to see if i am correct. i remember whatever it was that rob through was sick!
Old     (deepstructure)      Join Date: Jun 2002       09-14-2005, 1:45 PM Reply
so what's the difference between a batwing to blind and an o/a bs ts 180? the grab?
Old     (brandon_lee)      Join Date: Sep 2005       09-14-2005, 1:58 PM Reply
batwing to blind, it looks likt two motions, you snap it out, then for a second you are completley extended, then the second motion is the pass and you pull it back down. a OA bs 180 is just one continuous motion
Old     (thane_dogg)      Join Date: Jun 2002       09-14-2005, 2:31 PM Reply
C-stack - that picture that Brooke posted is Jeff Weatherall and that looks like an Indy Glide.

Rob's picture looks like that indy tweak thing that Danny Harf does. Harf does one off the double-up in All or Nothing at the very beginning of his segment. The one where parks drives a double-up and as he driving he's like, "OH SH_T" then Harf nails it lands it, and Parks cuts the throttle and says, "dude, that was tiiiiight."

Batwing, you rail in and extend until your body is paralell with with water. TSBSOA 180 you just come in and boot it and your body doesn't go away from the boat that far.

yeah I thought it was Jeff Weatherall in the Brooke pic posted. That guy does not get near enough the props he should!
