Here's a picture from 1970. Our neighbors from Toledo, Ohio were making surfboards for Cypress Gardens water Ski Shows. We bought one and attempted to surf behind Dad's 16 ft, 55 HP outboard.

That's my oldest sister on the board and Dad's feather weight ski boat in the back ground. I'm in the boat watching and my older brother is driving.

We never pulled off free riding but the surfboard was probably the first thing I road on behind a boat.

That boat barely made a ripple in the water, great for slalom, not so much for surfing. Giving a long board today and the same boat I wonder if it could be done, but I’d never try it behind an out board again, of course.

Cool pic! What lake is that? Or is that Maumee?

That was Lake Columbia, a private manmade lake. That's in the Irish Hills area near Jackson, Michigan and near the Michigan International Speedway. My parents bought an empty lot on a largely empty lake in about 1965 or 1966. Now the lake is packed.

Also, that's way too blue to be the Mighty Muddy Maumee

Well, I wasn't sure what it looked like way back then since I wasn't even born yet! LOL! I don't live in that area anymore (lived in Lambertville, MI for awhile).
