Just reported on NPR that a guy (named Colton) faceplanted after a flip on Friday and took an injury to the head that lead to seizures. Currently in hospital In Flagstaff in critical condition. Anyone know this guy?

Another accident was also reported with a powerboat of 7 people crashing into a wall and one person being killed.

Not a good weekend up there.

He was there with one of my good friends from Idaho. I got a text last night that Colton passed away. I don't have any details yet and can't find anything online either.

Thoughts and prayers with the families.

Colton Dixon always had a smile on his face even in the worst of situations. We knew him all of his life and he will be dearly missed. Old friends from Idaho.

Wow, how quick things can change, my thoughts go out to all who knew Colton. I just went last night and picked up a helmet for all the post that I have been seeing about injuries on the water. My head is down thinking about all who needs it at this time.

Found a few news stories on-line. They all pretty much say the same thing.

The family gave his organs as a donor on Sunday. And his funeral is on Friday in McCall Idaho. Hope this clears up weather he passed away or not.

The news was obviously behind - I heard that he was alive on the news at about 5pm last night then 'notsobueno' said that he had passed away the previous night.

Quote: Does anyone know if there was something in the water of was it just the impact from the water?
They described it on NPR as him having just landed a flip then catching a front edge and landing on his face.

Do you think a helment would have saved him? I guess we will never know. This kind of stuff scares me. I could not imagine having a fun day out on the water with my family, and then the next minute your son is dead. My kids will defenatley be wearing helmets. I don't care if they look like dorks. They will be living dorks.

RIP Colton.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned mouth guards!! Talk to any dentist/orthodontist and he will tell you that 80% of all concussions are from the mandibular(lower jaw)impacting with the maxillary(upper jaw). I know they've saved me a couple times from being concussed, get a "shock doctor" they retail for 5 bucks at your local sporting goods. Helmets might protect you on the rails, but they give you whiplash on the water. I've been wearing a mouth guard for 2 season...no more concussions and no more chipped teeth!!!

Great suggestion lago. I totally agree. I played high school football so mouthguards are second nature to me. I chipped up a few teeth and pretty sure I was concussed as well one of my first days riding. From then forward I wear one. Next I need to rig something up so I can tether the thing to my sleeve of my vest so I quit losing them.

Me being the dad of a 15 yr.old who has no fear of laying it out and going for it, this definetly gives me concern. anybody know the pros vs. cons on wearing helmets? evidently it is impact against the water that is causing this thereby a tremendous "jarring" of the brain... I lost my older brother who fell off a bike and hit his head against the concrete, Dr. said it sheared his brain...was in comma a couple weeks and brain dead. helmet i think would have saved him... maybe, just wondering if the larger surface of helmet would create an even more "jarring effect on the brain??? heck we got any real "brain surgeons" out there? I know one thing we sure better know that none of us are promised tomorrow, so we better treat one another as it is our last chance each day...It'll have me turning up the prayers for the riders I'm pulling, May God's Grace and Peace cover this family thru their loss of their precious son...He said His grace would be sufficient for the trials, I pray for a super abundance of it to all involved, bob

Thanks Tim. I read all the discussions. Since I am not a registered user I
am not able to make a post. If I could this is what I would say:

Thank you to all for your kind thoughts and prayers. Colton was our buddy
and we enjoyed many fun times on the water and otherwise. Many tears are
being shed here in Idaho for our dear friend, Colton. Please be safe all you
boarders and skaters. Wear the helmet. Find one that fits you. Wear the
mouth guard too. Be safe. A fun day on the water should not end in tragedy.
Peace be with all of you, Deb

And I would post this picture too. Deb

NPR is big in coconino county. THats about all there is. Last year when all the kite tubing accidents happened, it was on npr a couple of times. He could have ment the national parks radio band, they would have been the first responders.
