Ok so my 2003 Supra SS DD currently has a 4 blade prop. I think it may be the OJ 150 13*13 but I am not definite. Anyways, I have been told that the correct 3 blade version is more optimal for a Direct drive in terms of fuel efficiency, performance etc... I am running about 1100#'s ballast but will be moving that up to 15-1600 shortly. With current ballast at 20mph I am tachin around +3200 RPM and out of hole pull is fine. My question is if I go to a 3 blade version for my current ( or intended set up) will I still be happy with my hole shot. I would like to get my 20mph RPM down to <3000 for fuel saving and I would not mind more top end for Skiing / Cruising. I am considering the following:

Acme 543 3bld 13*11.5 (.080 cup)
OJ 150 3bld 13*12 (??? cup)

I would be interested in your experience with these? will the .5 difference in pitch present a big difference between the Acme and OJ version? or do you think I should just stay with my 4 blade prop

i just got the 542 and LOVE it! rpms are the same as the old stock prop, top speed is the same, but the whole shot is unreal. 0-21 mph with quarter throttle in only about 20 yards! slammed it with 1600 pounds and it did the same with about half power, but would easily pull out with quarter power in a reasonable distance

I may not be a prop guru, but I thought dropping in pitch will increase your rpm, not reduce it. Thus giving you a better hole shot, and lower top end.

So if I stay with the same pitch on both my RPM will stay the same right? then what difference will the 3 vs 4 blades make?

Now that is a question for the true gurus... Eric at OJ, Bill Weeks at Acme, or Karl at Board It Up. Hope they answer on here, I'm curious to know that also.

I have the 542 (for reverse rotation engines). Great prop. Supposedly 3 blade props are more efficient.
