Garage Floor

Anyone have any recommendations on what to coat a new garage floor with so spills wipe up easily without soaking in?

I put the epoxy floor down in mine. Bought a kit from Home Depot. Works awesome.

I used some from Home Depot as well.......Follow the instructions and be sure to prep it really well. The only areas that are coming up are where I didn't prep it well on the area that would be on the outside of the door when closed between the door and the the driveway. Besides that, the rest is well.

I laid down some commercial epoxy and its skid resistant and easy to clean......

You should look Flexiable interlocking PVC Tiles:

Very easy to install, no Prep work required, it will never peel, not effected by heat cold or water, will last forever and comes in almost any color.

You can even have a custom Logo Printed right on the tiles in any size.

Yes I know it sounds like a product Plug sorry, but it is my Dad's company.

I used U-coat it. It SUCKS I put down 3000sqf and wish I would have gone another route.

you gotta go with commercial grade. My buddie actully works for a place that does bathrooms, kitchens, warehouses, etc. He hooked me up. (its a long process though). first day you come in and you grind the concrete and fill all the seams and cracks with epoxy, then you come in the second day and primer the floor then blow sand (any color) into to the primer, third day you come in and lay a sealer on there....I've had it in my first house for about 2yrs and then we moved and I laid it down again and been there for alomst 2yrs and its good as new!

i dont know what shawn is talking about, but we put down U-Coat it in our corvette garage and it is awesome! No problems and we have had it for 3 years. i say its an A+ it does take alot of work to prep it though, but worth it in the end.

I installed Racedeck in mine. Purchased at overstock.com for about 40% off retail. No prep and easy install. I have had it about a year and love it!

I used kiwi tile (www.kiwitile.com).

Wish I had a 996TT cabby to park on it as well.

I used the Rustoleum product purchased thru Home Depot.

I had a quote from a "professional" installer for $1800 to do the garage floor, no stem walls. I did the floor and stem walls for $150. Been done for about 1.5 yrs without any problems.

Pittsburgh Paints' 2-part epoxy. 7+ years and going strong. Don't forget to etch with muriatic acid before laying down the epoxy.

Thanks for all the great input. I'm probably going to go with the Rustoleum 203373 Silver Gray Semi-Gloss 2-part Solvent-based EpoxyShield if I can find it at my Home Depot. Seems to be the cheapest with good reviews.

For those that went with the Home Depot Rustoleum product, did you mix any anti-slip stuff in during the application or do you not need it? And does the Rustoleum product work and look good with only 1 medium/thick coat?

After doing epoxy in my last garage I went VCT this time around. About $600 in materials from Home Depot and 10 hours to install.

2 years later and it's still going strong.

Snopescop. I'm with you, I have an epoxy floor now that is all chipped up and will NEVER do that again.
On the VCT tile, does HD have 24x24? I've only seen 12x12. Also, what did you put over the top?

VCT is made in 12x12 squares. The squares in my picture are made by using four tiles of the same color.

The top was sealed and waxed with commercial products, the same stuff that is used in grocery stores.

It was really shiny for quite a while. I just hose it out to clean it. It's probably due for a reapplication of wax but I'm too lazy to do it.

for the rustoleum product, mix the epoxy with the paint then roll onto floor just as you would with a wall. Do a small section, maybe 2x2, then sprinkle on the chips, move onto the next section. I did one coat but overlap the edges. Take your time it should turn out fine. Here is a couple pics of ours.

snopescop, is that floor tile the type that you would see in a grocery store? Does your tile have speckles all through it? Its hard to tell from the picture. Your floor looks great, it's got me seriously thinking.

Yes, VCT is used in grocery stores, it has flecks.

It's the standard black and white Armstrong VCT.
