I was thinking of getting two cans from boarders mall. What is the best budget speakers I can use for cans? Also what type of amp would I need to run the speakers. I would also like to have a volume knob for the speakers as well. I currently have a regular deck and 4 speakers running off that. I do not believe there are any pre outs on the deck. I have a stock alternator, perko switch and two batteries if that helps.

Is something like this worth $250 or can I make a better setup by buying the speakers seperate?

I want to keep this down to a few hundred bucks if not less. I know wetsounds are sweet, but the budget is limited.

Thanks for your help.

Really, go with the kicker's. I ordered mine, + amp (that i decided to upgrade, but besides the point) shipped for under $300. You can't beat that.

Shop around, find a used amp on craigslist, and let it rock.

I just made 4 speaker cans out of 6" pvc pipe for a friend and they actually worked pretty well. So if your a diy type person then you might consider doing it that way.

And for speakers I would either go with polk or kicker that seems to be the best option for the money. But the thing on ebay seems like an okay deal, but if your looking for some power I would look at polk or the new stuff by kicker.

And for an amp just look for one that is comparable to the rms on the speakers. For instance the polks can use 60 watt rms a piece and on my buddies system I have a cadence 2 channel 300 watt rms amp I got on ebay for 80 bucks. It puts around 75 watts per speaker at 2 ohm.

IF you are prepared to spend $250 on tower speakers, then look around for a set of the Kicker KTM6's. There are really the best bang 4 the buck. You'll need a good 2chnl amp that will deliver around 150 watts rms @ 4ohm's such as the Kicker zx450.2

I totally agree with everyone on the KMT6 option...

We have been selling tower cans loaded with marine and car-audio based speakers for many year sbut since we started selling the Kicker KMT6 units we barely sell a single pair of the old school cans these days... people just don't want to pay the money when the KMT6's are cheaper and far far superior.

I've put them on everything from 1980's Nautiques to Nautique 226's
