I am getting ready to buy a used PP WB Pro that came off of an I/O with a 5.7. Somebody told me that the PP is engine spacific and might not work. I have a 98 VLX with a 5.7 320hp monsoon. I can't get ahold of PP until Monday, does anyone know if this will work on my boat?

Generally the perfect pass is not engine specific except in special cases like the MC drive by wire and even then it's probably not. You should not have an issue, you might need a special cable if you have a factory paddle that you plan to use. Are your speedo's paddle based?

Greg,

How much did it cost you?

Mikeski, thats pretty much what I thought, but someone at the local dealer thought they were engine spacific. I know I need to buy a new cable, but the gauge is a 3.5 so it fits. My speedo's are not paddle based, which is one reason why I want the PP. I'm giving $750 for a used PP WB Pro. Sounds like a good deal to me. Is it? Thanks for the response

It CAN be engine/boat specific if you have something odd like my Toyotas 2 PPR tach signal, it requires different firmware. They sell them for 4 and 6 cyl engines too, that particular item would only affect the rpm based control. If there are special requirements to hook to your throttle linkeage, the package comes with parts specific to the application. Chances are, it's for a V8, but if not you could send it back to PP for reprogramming.
