I need some help with boat speed. I ride behind a SAN 210 with the rope at 60 feet. I am 6'9 and 240 pounds. I was told to ride at about 18 mph, but I think that is too slow. What do you guys recommend as a boat speed for me?

I went out this weekend and bumped the speed up to 22 from 18. Not to sound like a sissy (which I clearly am), but that felt damn fast! I think it is going to take me a few times to get used to the increased speed. As far as bindings, right now, I am in the Hyperlite spins and they fit well, but I am thinking about getting some new ones. So, as a size 14, what would be good pair to get?

In my opinion, 4 MPH might be a big jump in speed, especially for someone who may be fairly new (sorry, just assuming). I would suggest working your way up slowly, maybe try 19 next 2 sets or so, then 20, then 21... slowly work up your speed until you find what works best for you and the wake. Dont forget to add more line when you get going faster. I have no experience with that boat, so I can't give any advice on what works with that boat. But I usually ride 75'-80' at 24 on a tige 21i.

With the length of the rope are you including the handle and its rope? Like 75' from your hands to the end of the rope.....?

if your riding straight into the wind it'll make it feel like your riding alot faster that you really are, so just try to relax when this happens

with about 22.5 to 23 and 75 feet of line you get a solid wake and all the pop one could want. if your riding at 60 feet take the line back go farther out and cut in harder, the speed and distance you will be jumping takes a while to get usedto but the faster you get that down the better you will be in the end.

18 is way too slow assuming your speedo is calibrated. I take beginners who are getting up for the first time at that speed. If you are trying to carve and jump, you need more speed and a firmer wake. Each boat is different, but low 20's is pretty standard. Calibrate your speedo with a GPS (see owners manual for how to adjust the speedo gauge) to be sure.

I'm 240 and I ride the 3DS 143. You arn't gonna find a board big enough for you so you have to get more speed to compensate for the weight. I ride at 25 mph. Anything lower and the board doesn't genereate the speed that I like and I feel like I am dragging. Look at all the 143 and 144 boards and you will find out that not all are the same length. Also, some are wider in the tip/tail which helps. The total surface area of the board will be the largest factor in determining what a good speed will be. As you progress, you probably will end up running in the 23-25 mph range unles they come up with a 155 board in the near future.
