Disclaimer: I'm not trying to promote a boat that I am selling, just giving you guys something to laugh about.....

So yesterday, this guy from Canada calls me up to ask about the X80 that I am selling. One of his questions was, "Does it have Perfect Pass?".

I said no, but it does include Mastercrafts cruise control option and that I didn't think that it was made by PP because it has some engine syncro stuff tied to the controller.

He said that he's been doing tons of research on this boat and then goes on to tell me that he thought that Perfect Pass was created specifically for this boat because of the "dual wake" and that the X-80 was the end all be all for wakeboard boats.

Haha. Whatever dude. Just pay me the $75K and you can think whatever you want about it!

That is unless, I'm an idiot and Mastercraft is really dumber than I thought.

Maybe it's an unwarranted conclusion, but if he's been doing "tons of research," wouldn't that lend itself to the possibility that he has checked out WakeWorld? Perhaps browses this very forum? Perhaps reads your post?

Just something to consider.

Cody/David.....I understood the ramifications of posting this considering his tons of research. But quite frankly, if he does read this post, then maybe he might realize that we was wrong. Additionally, I'm not sure that I even care about selling to someone that speaks arrogance about stuff that he obviously didn't fully understand.

DJ...Ouch? you think that is high?

I don't understand the original post. Are you making fun of him because he thought Perfect pass was made for Mastercraft? Or just the general arrogance of a person buying an X-80?

We're not all born knowing everything. My attitude is always that I'm not gonna waste more than a few minutes of my time on the phone. I will talk all you want when you show up at my door to look at whatever I'm selling. Oh, and don't even bother emailing me, waste of my time. Tends to wee dout the tire kickers.

I do find it odd that someone from anywhere in Canada would want to get a boat from that far away. Time and money to get it, or lots of money to ship it. I'm sure there are plenty of decent boats up there with the relatively short season.

Damn dude - in this market - don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Unless you really don't want to sell....

The point of the post was the just to illustrate how bad the internet can be about spreading misinformation. It a shame that someone can go out on the internet trying to educate themselves on a topic and be presenting with enough bogus information that they can be easily be convinced of anything.

with that being said, I do hope he stumbles across this post and forum and maybe he will start to use this and other reputable websites that we all frequent.

All true.... look at all the I/O owners who were shopping for wake boats.

That said, I don't really think Brandon has burned any bridges. The guy is probably getting his info from the TMC forum.

Frankly I always thought the X80 was more like the be all end all ****ie boat.

Brandon - I don't understand why you'd come on here bashing a potential customer. Not very professional.

out of my prospects on this boat, he is dead last as far as probability. Not to give you any more details about the call, but if it comes around to next May and I still have the boat, then I might be sorry that I posted it here if he comes around this board.

I think the post was absolutely legit and amusing like brandon says , how can one come to that conclusion.......if only you hadn't mentioned he was canadian.

If he has in fact done his homework then there is no way he would have concluded it was the best choice for a wake boat. If anyone where to ask this or any other board even TMC there is no way the consenses would have been buy the X80 for the best wake boat. More like the Xstar or X45 if you need big. The X80 has many great things about it, but wakeboarding is not one of them.

Great to Party, Great to cruise, maybe even great to surf.

That's what blows my mind. How can one come to a conclusion that is so far off base? Like you said, reading any of these forums would educate you well (in most cases). Where is this guy reading this stuff?

maybe just change the title to "X79 end all be all" he'll never look at a lesser model!

Tell him it's the same hull as the future X81!

Billy, You can stick your wakeboard you know where for that one.

I am Canadian!

Cory,

There are used boats around here but not near the amount available as there are in the states.
Here are some X Stars in the classifieds on WW
06 55K
08 62K
07 63K
06 54K
08 72K
08 67K

Here a 04 X Star is still about 65-75K. The average new X Star or VLX are about 100K out the door. They had a 09 24LSV at the boat show last year with a triple trailer and it was $ 114K or around there.
Here's some local boats for sale.

I couldn't even find a X-star on Craigslist around here.

Shipping a boat from California or so isn't really that expensive and the $$$ you can save can be well worth it. Lots of people buy cars, Trucks, RV's, and boats from the US and bring them up. You just have to make sure you do your homework before you buy.

Don't forget. There are more people in the state of California then there is in all of Canada.

Check out Vancouver craigslist and search for wakeboats. There isn't that many

Why would you guys care how he handles his business? It's his business not yours. Take it for what it was suppose to be an amusing post. Don't even try to play the bashing card more of that shizz goes on around here than anything else.

Actually the big MasterCrafts are among my favorite wake boats ever made - X80- X45, the 300 and especially the CSX 265. I don't care about the mixed reports of the wake on the big MC's - I'd own an X80 or CSX 265 if money was not a factor. In fact... the 265 would fit my life way too well.

Hate....you read my mind. How am I doing with the emoticons?

DJ, you'd be surprised. An almost identical one went on ebay last week for 79K. Yeah, this particular boat was stickered at $140k. Insane!

You'd all be surprised by the number of people from Canada that I get calls from on my boats.

Yeah, if I had an extra $70k lying around, had a 230 instead of my old 210, then I would love to have the X-80 to cruise around the lake with the 40+ cigs doing 80mph. I actually think the wakeboard wake looked pretty legit. Unfortunately the only day that I had a chance to get behind it, we had no rope. Hopefully we'll get to boss behind it this weekend and I'll take some pics.

The X80 goes 80mph?

No the 40+ cigs do.

Yeah - I see those little pecker boats here in Tampa all the time. They do go fast. I was kind of shocked that an X80 would keep up at 80mph.

If it could, well - then it probably would be an end all wakeboat.

THere was a guy that had one supercharged a while back. I believe he could only get it to about 65mph. I think it disappointed him and he ended up selling it. If I was stupid enough to think I could get a direct drive to go that fast, and dumped all that $$ in it, I guess I would be too.
Old     (woreout)      Join Date: Aug 2006       09-04-2009, 12:59 PM Reply
The only way an X80 will hit 80mph is being towed. Theres NO WAY it will go that fast even with different engines on its own.

Dave I'm sorry about your luck ayyy !

Billy, don't be sorry, it's good luck to be Canadian...eh!

Haha. Definitely not 80mph. It's just being able to be on the same lake as those guys seeing that they make the lake choppy as hell.

80mph? Try half that!

Didn't get to ride. Way to busy this weekend. Labor day...go figure.
