well I personally would not spend that kinda money for a boat that is not really designed for skining or boarding. also the 130 hp motor is gonna suck for trying to pull out a heavy rider of if u wait down the boat. I reccomend a older malibu or CC

2nd the weakness of the 130hp engine. Buddy of mine had a VIP with the 130 hp engine, and I drank half the lake trying to get up on a slalom ski (early 90's). Would probably do better with a wakeboarder tho.

David I agree with Nate. When i researched buying a wakeboard boat. I checked on some bayliners, and some like that. The word I got was the engine could not take it. They are great for just cruiseing. You need something with a V-8 in it. and if you progrees, and need a bigger wake, you will want to add ballast. You profile doesnt say where you are at, but here is a boat in Mass. it would need some interior work, but the price is good. http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/9/4/73323794.htm
Also here is one that would be just right, and close to the price of the one you have posted.

You can go to boattradder.com and do a search by price or area.
You can find an older boat for a decent price. these boats should last 3000 hours with minor repair, if taken care of. I would stay with Correct Craft, Malibu, Or MasterCraft.

For that money, I'd probably go with an older nautique, supra, supreme, or centurion with an extended pylon and weight.

i/o's just aren't that good for wakeboarding especially with a small motor like in that glastron.

Anybody know how that 1976 CORRECT CRAFT Competition Ski Nautique boat on boattrader compares to the 2001's? (I did try searching)

thanks guys. i wont buy it then. i live in NJ and have $5000 to spend. i like the ski nautique in PA but seriously just dont have the extra grand right now. if anybody knows of any other boats that might fit this bill, post em here for me.......thanks again guys.

Don't let the guys with all the money talk you into a big expensive wakeboard boat. We bought a 98 bayliner 2050 250 hp for $7K. It has held up just great pulling up 250+ lb. guys while the boat had 7 adults in it. If your tight on cash, a non-wakeboarding boat still will work, just make sure it's got enough hp. It may not throw as big of wake, but if you are new to boarding, you probably aren't throwing a lot of tricks yet anyway.
Sure we will want to get a tige or similar someday, but for now as least we are out on the lake.
Good luck. By the way we bought our boat off ebay too.

Is there anyone you can hook up with and ride while you save some cash and maybe pick up a winter deal and get the type of boat you want?

Don't know how cash you got, but buy a comp boat...all kinds of boats on Boattrader.com for 10k that would be great...shop around and don't jump at the first one...right now boats are a preium..if you can wait till the end of the season you will save a lot of cash. I shopped for 3 months and got mine for 10k.

250hp -- big difference over 130! Whatever the money involved, my experience with a 4-banger 130hp i/o was very poor, that's all I said. A 250 hp engine is a whole different thing, and you really can't compare. 250 will definitely pull up someone pronto.

I'm definetely not saying you need an expensive boat to have fun! My first boat was an old Glastron with a 55hp Johnson, and it pulled us up WAY better than the VIP with 130 i/o. We paid $500 for it!

Here you go David,
Some are more than $5000 that is where you test your bargaining skills. Some need a little work. But then again they are used. I bought a 93 Mastercraft Prostar for 14,000. Last year. Mastercraft and Correct craft hold there value like Gold. And yes you can wakeboard behind anything. I used to do it behind a 19' carolina skiff with a 50 Yamaha. My son got to where he could do a back roll behind it.

Hope this helps. Also take the advise off the message board as advise. Listen, sort thru the bull, and make your own decision. Best advise. have mechanic check engine, and make sure you do a test drive/ride before giving money.

I don't think I would ever buy any boat that I hadn't driven first.

what up dave?before I got my malibu I had an I/O. I will save you the time and tell ya if it isnt a v8 dont waste your time.. If you can get a pylon and fill the front of the boat with about 300lbs you will be good to go with an I/O.. Just make sure it is at leats a 305 cubic inch motor..
Sure a direct drive would be great but this will work ok until you are ready to move up...good luck dude

If you can hold on til winter, do it. I bought my 95 Mastercraft Prostar 205 last winter for only $10,000 with Phat tower, lights, and killer system. Incredible deal, but you have to wait for the right time. I haven't seen anything near what I got for less than $16,900. What a savings. You will be able to find a ski/wakeboard boat for what you want to spend, just wait a little while.

fellas-i know myself too well. i need to get back in the water. i use to surf quite a bit but the weekend warrior thing isnt too condusive to getting waves. i learned to wakeboard down south in atlanta two years ago on a friend's boat and have been thinking about it ever since. i agree whole heartedly- winter is the time to buy, but knowing me-there will be a boat in my backyard by august 1st.
