I just got a new truck that is lifted so I need to get a new drop hitch. A friend had an old one the size I need laying around but it is rated for 5000# and 500 tongue weight. According to the web my boat is appx 4000 lb dry so I'm guessin with trailer and gear it's prob 5500-6000 lbs and I have no idea on the tongue weight. It's a 23 ft MB on a boatmate trailer. Would that be too mug for the 5000% hitch or should I upgrade to a heavier duty class V hitch that's good to 10000 lb rating?

You have a 24' boat you suspect is over the weight rating plus a new lifted truck, and you're thinking about using an old hitch that's not stout enough? Drop the ~$30 and get a new one!

The hitch is a year old. Nothing wrong with it
