Obrien FLX Series R5 Board....Whats the word??

I'm looking at the new waterski mag, and they have a 08' wakeboard section.

They have a picture and description of new obrien board. Its like a roam, anyone have one or ride one? How does it compare to the roam?

I have been riding it for a few days now, and I have to say it’s freaking SICK! I have never had the chance to ride a rome, but from what I hear the R5 is more predictable. It’s stiff where you want it to be, flexy where you need it. It’s just great. I even took a few boats sets on it and loved it. It might actually make me convert to riding flex full time.

It does have one odd trait, that I think is actually rather cool, it’s almost silent on rails, the Core really dampens the rail sound. Really different sounding, Feels great on jibs though-

When you say it flexes where you want so you mean flexy tips and a stiffer center?

Because, thats my problem with the roam, its to soft in the middle. When will these be out for the public? I will defiantly be ordering one.

The FLX boards are on there way to the states as we speak!

Andy i was loking at the alliance board buyers guide thing and it looked like obrien had the R5 as one of the flx boards and it looked like they had another like the slingshot and liquid force flx boards sry for the post hack but whats the word on these??? also

Ethan, Yes it has a more traditoinal flex pattern between your boots and a flexible tip and tail. Its just sick! Chris Nailed this one!

Kyle Yes the Wake version is call the Local! I will have my hands on one soon, The R5 was hand delivered from Thailand, which was a bit expensive so I am told so I have to wait for the boat to get a Local. I think I may become an all flex Riders SOon

im still a little confused, is this board closer to like a slingshot or a roam in the way that its constructed / flexes?

Alex, its not really like either one except for the fact that it is a Flex board, new material and construction.

according to todays poll, there is over 1/2 the population who has yet to try a flex board. Still many more potential "converts" yet to come ;)

i part of that half population but once i got the $ its on with the flex lol trying to decide slingshot liquid force or obrien im not into finless lol so i wont be gettin the r5 roam or covenant

I just made the switch to Slingshot. It's been pretty fun. It's great that O'Brien came out with a flex board. It turned out well.

I just sold my roam, now i need to find someone stocking a R5 or Local......
